Oscar (HOMED!)

Woo Hoo! At last Oscar has found his home with kennel mate Jenny,  with lovely Rachel.
Beautiful Oscar has been waiting for a forever home for around 2 years now. I hear you asking “is there something wrong with him?”
The answer is NO, Oscar’s just like any other, and maybe that’s why no one has chosen him yet. Yes, he’s big, and black, and a boy, and not cat friendly.
Oscar was in foster care but then his carers had to make room for other more urgent greys so Oscar went back to kennels. He is a confident greyhound with a winning personality. In the kennels he is bouncy and exuberant, but this is only because he is sooooo happy to have some human attention, as are most of the greys there.
If he was in a home he would calm down a lot. He would love human or dog company but we don’t believe he would have to have another dog’s company. This is a bonus as many greys suffer from separation anxiety if they do not have a doggy friend. Oscar is comfy enough in his own skin to be the only dog (as long as he is not left alone all day, every day of course). Oscar would be ideal for a dog savvy person or family with teenagers.

He is a beautiful boy who has immense personality, not only is he is quiet and laid back at times and likes to give and receive affection but at the same time can be playful and energetic. When he was in a foster home Oscar mixed in with the troups and got on well with the other greyhounds that he was living with. On going for a walk he starts off with enthusiasm and energy but soon settles down and walks easily on the lead.  He will make someone a wonderful best friend and has waited too long.

Oscar is:

  • 5 years old (dob June 2007)
  • Desexed
  • Microchipped
  • Vaccinated
  • Heartworm tested and treated
  • Costs $300

Of course if you’d rather adopt beautiful Oscar than foster him, that’s fine with us!

Hey Greyhound Rescue! I’ve been wanting to know what goes into being a foster carer? What kind of costs go into it…what would I need to do and provide and what kind of support would I get as well? I’ve always wanted to own a greyhound, but I’ve never owned any dog for that matter…would fostering still be okay if I’ve never had experience owning a dog? Thanks! :o) You all do wonderful work!

Hi Vilia Wesolowski, thank you for considering fostering, it is a very rewarding experience. Because the answer is a bit long for facebook can I ask you to enquire via email to Greyhound Rescue on joeturton@live.com, with some basic details about your work hours, other pets, location etc and we can forward you some details 🙂

Maltese and whippet..? I am not worried bout the whippet but the little dog… Would he be okay with him? I’m so sad he has been waiting for two years… We live in Melbourne…

Oscar might well be OK in this situation but he has not been with small dogs for a while, so he would not be the best choice, especially as you are in Melbourne. However, we do have others that would no doubt be suitable.
