Hound-friendly walks – Lake Parramatta Reserve

Feb 9, 2021 | Hound-friendly walks

Set in beautiful bushland in North Parramatta, Lake Parramatta Reserve is the perfect place to take your houndie for an off-the-beaten-track adventure! Gorgeous lake views, native flora and fauna and unlimited sniffs await!

Where: The main entrance is from Lackey Street off Bourke Street in North Parramatta.

Length/duration: Lake Parramatta is home to three great walking tracks.

  • She-Oak Track – 1.5. km – Easy
  • Banksia Track – 2.4 km – Moderate
  • Lake Circuit – 4.2 km – Moderate – 1.5-2 hrs

Both the She-Oak Track and Banksia Track are nice and short, suitable for young children.

The Lake Circuit is a bit more challenging, primarily due to uneven surfaces and a few creek crossings. Creek crossings may be impassable after heavy rain.

Opening hours: Lake Parramatta Park is open all year round, with the main gate opening at 6.30am and closing at 5.30pm (7.30pm during the summer months)

On lead/off-leash? On-leash only.

For the hounds: There are no poo-bag dispensers or dog drinking fountains at Lake Parramatta. Make sure you come prepared.

Some houndies may struggle with the stairs, creek crossing and steep sections.

For the humans:

  • Free carparking
  • Café
  • BBQ and picnic facilities
  • Public toilets (near the carpark. No amenities along the walking track)
  • Swimming and boat hire
