Why Adopting a Greyhound at Christmas is a Good Idea

Dec 5, 2023 | Adoption

If you’ve been thinking about adopting a greyhound, the Christmas holiday period might just be the perfect time to do so!

We often hear that Christmas time isn’t a good time to bring a pet into the home. While we don’t advocate rushing into buying, gifting or adopting a dog at Christmas (or any other time of year), we do believe that the Christmas break can be the ideal time to settle in your new greyhound.

Our adoption process is designed to find the best match between hound and family, matched on a case-by-case basis, so that everyone has the best chance at success. With that in mind, as long as you are making a considered decision, and are prepared for all that adoption entails, there is no reason not to adopt a hound at Christmas!

Many of us have time off work over the holiday period, with the whole family at home. Provided you don’t have any trips or big parties planned, it’s the perfect time to settle in your hound. There’s more time for training, and importantly more time to get them used to being alone. If you have children at home, you’ll have more time to teach them how to safely engage with your hound.

On the other hand, for some of us the holiday period can be a lonely one. Greyhounds are incredibly loving and affectionate and make great companions during a time you may feel isolated. They will repay your kindness in adopting them tenfold.

And of course, you’ll feel great knowing you’ve given a hound their most amazing Christmas yet! That and you’ve freed up a place at Greysland for another hound to wait for their forever home.
