The Apple of our (Hawk)eye

Feb 28, 2023 | Success Stories

When Hawkeye joined Rob and Chloe, the slippery floor did him a big concern. But six months into pet life he’s become an expert drifter, sliding into position wherever he wants in his new home.

From day one Hawkeye has been an “absolute darling,” and for Rob and Chloe, it’s been a beautiful journey to watch him come out of his shell.

“Growing the bond to the point where he will rest his head on us and lean into us for cuddles has been super special,” they say. Even when he’s left alone during the day he’ll “entertain himself, playing with his toys and leave everything else (even balls of yarn) in its rightful place. Such a gentleman.”

Ever the gentle soul, “If given a toy or a treat he’ll grasp it ever so delicately in his mouth and trot over excitedly to his bed – then dig in like mad! We once saw him catch a moth in his mouth and drop it in the grass, it was still fine to fly away after!”

With his new life opening up in front of him, Hawkeye loves going on adventurous activities like hiking and car rides, and will “sniff everything in sight.” Unless it’s raining of course, in which case he would rather cuddle on the “couch between us and happily watch telly in the evening.”

Rob and Chloe say that greyhounds are a “dream dog to have if you’re willing to put in the extra effort for a few months while they figure out pet life.”

“The support available through the Greyhound Rescue community is fantastic and most of our questions were answered very early on by the amazing Sian who did our pre-adoption house visit with her beautiful hound Charlee! We then had really great support from Sarah who’s been so patient in answering many annoying questions as we brought Hawkeye into our lives.”

The only thing Rob and Chloe caution is “shopping for fashionable greyhound outfits can be very addictive!”
