Stella: Dorky, cheeky and so incredibly loveable

Mar 2, 2021 | Success Stories

Everyone’s favourite girl Stella (FKA Stelline) went on trial with Greyhound Rescue volunteers Blair and James in March last year. Within a few weeks, the adoption was finalised and Stella has been happily living her best pet life for the past 11 months!

According to Blair, Stelly (or Stel, Stel Bel, Stelly Belly depending on your mood!) has added so much joy and happiness to their lives.

“My partner and I volunteer at Greyhound Rescue and on our first shift we immediately fell in love with the breed and their quirky personalities,” said Blair.

“We were regularly volunteering for a while before meeting Stella one day on a shift and we knew she would be the perfect fit for us. The following weekend we took Stella on an excursion and spent the day with her- we didn’t want the day to end! We have now had Stella for 11 months and we couldn’t picture our life without her!

“She is so dorky, cheeky and so incredibly loveable.”

Like many greyhounds, Stella is a quick learner! Blair and James are currently teaching her to swim. She’s also adapted to a co-living situation with an 11-year-old cat. Incredible stuff for this special girl.

“She is slowly learning to be more playful and has learned that sticking her wet, little nose in people’s hands when they walk past is the perfect way to ensure she gets all the pats,” said Blair.

“Stella loves the car. Getting in the car and going for car rides are definitely her favourite thing. She will wait at the door, race us to the car and jump into whatever door is open (including the driver’s seat!)”

Stella has won over Blair’s dad too.

“When Stella is staying with my dad, they have ‘arguments’ because Stella always steals his seat. It has gotten to the point that the only way Dad has somewhere to sit is by bargaining and supplying a mattress just for Stella in prime position in front of the fireplace” said Blair.

“Whenever we go down to my dad’s house, the mattress is out and waiting for Stella to arrive.

“What would I say to someone thinking of adoptiong a greyhound? ‘Do it!’ Greyhounds are so unique and like no other breed,” asid Blair.

“They are so clean and are more than happy to have a day out or sleep the day away in their bed or the couch!

“The application coordinators at Greyhound Rescue are fantastic and are available to answer any questions you may have or when needing advice. The Greyhound Rescue community is very close knit and support is always available, no matter the question or situation.”
