Bandit knows a good thing when she sees it! When her future parents, Michelle and Rhys, came through the doors at the Greyhound Rescue kennels, Bandit (formerly Liberty) wasted no time, flopping between them on the couch and smooching up a storm.
Ten months down the track and this special girl is a firmly embedded member of the household!
“Her addition to our home has added an extra spark of humour and joy to our lives every day,” said Rhys.
“She’s completely hysterical. She is the most silent creature you will ever meet but speaks volume with just one look. She is always making us laugh with a toss of her head or lying in the strangest of positions.
“She loves people and is exceedingly gentle. She has recently begun cuddling with us and we have even taught her to hug!
Sometimes, greyhounds no longer wanted by the racing industry are surrender to the Greyhound Rescue kennels in pretty bad shape. Poor Bandit was having serious issues with her skin – it was inflamed, she had dandruff and had developed large patches of baldness.
“Greyhound Rescue actually only had Bandit in the kennel for four days before they asked us to take her in the hope that a home environment would help reduce her skin inflammation and begin her journey to grow her fur back.
“We are now very pleased to say that she has grown neck hair! She’s also dandruff-free and in recent months we have even seen patches of fur coming back on her bum. We are hoping for a total recovery from ‘baboon butt’ but only time will tell!
“Bandit is very small in stature for a greyhound but we don’t think we could have found a dog with a bigger personality or more gentle soul.
“Before we found Bandit, we went through so many different dog adoption options and couldn’t find a match. Greyhound Rescue was so helpful, supportive and thoughtful in their matching process. They really take the time to make sure the right dog is going to the right home.
“If you’re thinking about adopting a greyhound, do it! Greyhounds are such amazing pets. Bandit is gentle, loving, simple, quiet and easy. We couldn’t ask for a better dog to suit our lives.
