Berrima River Walk – Hound-friendly walks

Apr 4, 2021 | Hound-friendly walks

The Berrima River Walk starts in Berrima Reserve and winds along the picturesque Wingecarribee River. The site of a WW1 German Internment Camp from 1915-1919, the walk is a beautiful bushwalk and history lesson, all in one go! While your hound enjoys some river-side sniffs and spiky-bush poos, you can read the excellent interpretive signs and immerse yourself in the history of the area. The walk is very quiet on weekdays but can be busy on weekends (because it’s just so gorgeous!)

Where: Berrima, NSW (approx. 90mins from Sydney). The walk starts at the Berrima River Reserve Campground. Access via Oxley Street. You can also start and finish the walk at the dog-friendly pub, The Surveyor General Inn.

A well-earned rest at The Surveyor General Inn!

Length/duration: 1.8km return. Allow approx. 1 hour. The walk is mostly flat with slight grades (can be slippery when wet)

Opening hours: N/A, you can access the walk 24/7, 365 days per year!

On lead/off-leash? On-leash only.

For the hounds: No dog poo bag dispensers or water fountains along the trail so come prepared. The trail can be narrow in parts which makes keeping distance if passing another dog difficult. Dogs can cool off in the river after the walk (the easiest access is from the campground, near the kid’s play area)

For the humans: There are public toilets, BBQs and a kid’s playground in the Berrima River Reserve Campground. Berrima’s town centre is a 5 min car ride from walk. There are several great cafes, eateries and shops in town, including the dog-friendly Surveyor General Inn.
