Ray, formerly known as Ramone, landed on all four paws the day he arrived home with new owners Robert and Bronwyn.
Confident right from the start, Ray took little time to settle into his new home.
“Ray is a sweet, friendly boy who loves everyone he meets,” says Robert. “He absolutely loves Viola, our granddaughter, who sat beside him on the way home from Greysland.”
“He has come a long way since that first day we brought him home on his adoption trial.”
“When we brought him home, he stuck to the backyard for two weeks before our first visit to the outside world. He wasn’t nervous or afraid of the loud noises on the road, and we live on a very busy main road.”
“We kept him separated from Lucky the cat, but Lucky showed him who was the boss and now they share a bed.”
Utterly content when close to his humans, Ray is also fine with time alone and indulges in a nice 18 of hours sleep per day. He loves to meet other greys, and still isn’t sure whether he loves his walks or car rides more. Either way, he puts on quite the show when preparing to leave the house.
“He puts on this dance every time we get ready to leave the house and hops and trots around like he can’t contain his excitement,” says Robert.
“Ray loves the fact that we take him on trips to strange towns to explore and have a pub lunch after meeting all those strangers, including the 4-legged ones.”
“He also lets us know when it is time to take the grandkids to school and to pick them up in the afternoon. We think he tells the time by the TV.”
Robert and Bronwyn believe there are so many positives to rescuing a greyhound, and recognise how important it is to have a supportive team available to help with the transition.
“A first-time greyhound owner, I can’t stress enough how valuable it was to have a team we could contact if we needed support,” explains Robert.
“The volunteers at Greyhound Rescue have so much specialised knowledge, going the extra mile to provide each family with information and advice specific to their greyhound.”
