Reuben the Riot is a nickname for the beautiful Kennel Kid alum Reuben, handed down by his doting pawrent Domenica. It’s all thanks to his knack for sending Domenica into riotous fits of laughter with his unexpected and spontaneous antics.
Take his love for the car as an example.
“Reuben will happily jump straight into any car, ready for an adventure,” says Domenica.
“One day, not long after Reuben came home, while at my sister’s house, she went to grab something out of the car, much to her surprise she had a ready and willing waiting passenger.”
And if you happen to be on the street and see Domenica and Reuben stop at a set of lights, you can expect some soulful vocals out of this backseat driver.
“There is to be no slowing down, no stopping at lights allowed. It’s shooting the breeze at 80 kph only!”
Other things Reuben has a partiality for, “meeting his mate Coco, dog park runs, walks and of course his best toy Squeaky Rubber Kong”.
Domenica says that welcoming Reuben into her home has been the most rewarding experience of her life, and she loves learning something new about Reuben every day.
“As each day passes, more of his beautiful personality emerges as we learn and grow together” says Domenica.
“Bearing witness to his transformation is truly magnificent.”
Domenica is a strong advocate for patience when you adopt a hound.
“Whenever the journey gets rocky, don’t give up before the miracle,” she says.
“Reuben is my greatest teacher. I’m learning not to expect him to be calm and anxiety-free in order for me to feel less anxious, switching the focus on myself to be there for him is my greatest lesson.”
“The safer and more secure he feels, the more harmonious our relationship becomes.”
“Thank you Greyhound Rescue, for the best boy in the world, my Reuben.”
