Badger is a name many of our Greyhound Rescue volunteers and supporters won’t soon forget. A long-term kennel kid with a fear of men, dear Badgey spent almost a year at Greyhound Rescue learning how to be loved, picking up new skills and gaining confidence before he was ready to meet his furever family.
Lucky for Badger, he struck gold in September 2020 with Trish and Jodi. These wonderful women spent an hour and a half tossing chicken towards him from afar at their meet and greet until he was comfortable enough to jump in the car and head off to his new home.
“As a quiet boy with a fear of men, we like to think our ‘two mummy’, kid-free, cat-free household is perfect for Badgey. It’s certainly been perfect for us!” said Trish.
“Despite his size, Badgey is an extremely shy, awkward, cautious but cuddly boy who is very, very slowly starting to come out of his shell.
“In the months that we’ve had him, he has come such a long way. He isn’t completely over his fear of men but is clearly less anxious and more confident around most men – even approaching some for pats.”
Badger loves snacking on BBQ chicken, jumping on Trish and Jodi’s bed for cuddles as soon as the sun is up, laying out in the sun and digging in his sandpit.
“He also enjoys his twice-daily walks (especially in the rain) and LOVES car rides (sometimes it seems he prefers them to walks),” said Trish.
“We found out the hard way that Badgey absolutely LOVES water and ‘swimming’. At the start, he was like a magnet to it – catching us off guard and literally dragging us into any body of water with him!
“He has since eased up on his impromptu swimming sessions and instead splashes about in his own little shell pool at home whenever the weather permits.
“Badgey has brought us so much joy and laughter, and the experience of rescuing him has been so rewarding. If you’re thinking of adopting a greyhound – do it, we promise you won’t regret it.
