Wonton’s Way Home

Nov 26, 2025 | Success Stories

Wonton lived at Greysland for a year before heading into a foster home. He then finally found his forever people in Jesse and Tori.

“Wonton is at his core just a happy boy,” says Jesse.

“He is incredibly affectionate, taking any opportunity for a pat and a lean against his favourite humans.”

“He has become a daily source of love and joy in our lives, from his unparalleled excitement for a morning walk to nighttime cuddles between his favourite people on the couch.”

A strong boy who wasn’t too sure what to make of dogs that weren’t noodle shaped, with time Wonton has been learning to enjoy meeting other dogs. Time alone was also a learning curve for him.

“When we first welcomed Wonton into our home he struggled with time alone as he adapted to his new life,” explains Jesse. “His isolation anxiety in the beginning meant he was upset when left alone in the house for more than a minute or so, but with some guidance from Greyhound Rescue and his increasing trust in us Wonton is now comfortably able to be home alone all day.”

Thanks to his intelligent and eager nature, paired with his love of food, Wonton is a quick learner – in fact Jesse and Tori might even say too smart for his own good!

“Wonton is incredibly intelligent, so much so that he learned to open our kitchen drawers to help himself to a snack” Jesse says.

“His kitchen explorations have resulted in us installing a baby gate that he rests his head on, looking longingly at any food being prepared. He has recently discovered the joys of a Bunnings sausage and beat the world record for the fastest time ever to eat a snag.”

“We knew he was a cheeky boy the day we picked him up from Greysland, where he picked his own squeaky toy straight off the wall that he still cuddles every day.”

Wonton’s goofy – but charming – personality has well and truly emerged. Take the Wonton Wheelies for example!

“Wonton’s favourite thing to do is go for a walk. He can barely contain himself at the thought of his daily walk, and what started off as morning zoomies in the bedroom when we get up has progressed to hopping in excitement at the front door – his Wonton wheelies!”

Jesse and Tori say Wonton is beloved by everyone in their lives, with no shortage of volunteers for pup-sitting.

“Wonton has become an irreplaceable part of our family,” says Jesse.

“Greyhounds have a unique personality. They are weird, wacky, funny, but most of all incredibly grateful for the love and affection they receive. It can take a little while for them to adjust to their new environment, but you’ll know when they truly feel at home. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience.”

Jesse and Tori say that one thing we weren’t expecting on their journey with Wonton was the support from the Greyhound Rescue community.

“Within two weeks we had met just about every greyhound owner in our area who were just as excited about Wonton as we were” says Jesse. “From harness recommendations to the best local vets, we know we can always find helpful advice from the community”.

“Our adoption coordinator and Wonton’s foster mum were both a huge support in helping us ease Wonton’s isolation anxiety and continued checking in on us to make sure all of us were thriving together”.
