A New Start for Nuri

Apr 17, 2025 | Success Stories

Sweet boy Nuri found his forever home with Lachlan and Rachel. They say that welcoming Nuri into their home has been a crazy journey, but also one of the most rewarding experiences. Read on to hear their story.

Rachel and Lachlan say Nuri has fit right into their family.

Nuri can be an anxious boy, but with Rachel and Lachlan showing him how great life can be, he is learning that things aren’t always as scary as they seem. He can be a little reserved at first with new people, but once he feels comfortable he is a regular goofball!

“Watching him learn to trust, how to play and to run for fun is something I wouldn’t trade for the world,” says Rachel. “We celebrate all the small wins!”

Nuri now knows the joys of a loving home, full of squeaky toys and a lounge you can spread out on. Sorry hoomans! He also has lots of fun with his fur cousins who he loves to spend time with.

One of the areas Nuri found challenging in the early days was walking outside the home. It took a good six months but he learnt to find enjoyment in his walks, no longer freezing or needing to lay down.

He also had to learn water skills quick smart!

“Nuri discovered what a swimming pool was when he was walking along the edge and decided to put his front paws in, not realising he would fall in,” Rachel explains.

“Luckily he is a good swimmer and paddled his way out!”

Reflecting on the advice she received from her adoption team during her journey with Nuri, she says it was the reminder to let him go at his pace that was invaluable.

“If I had to pick one piece of advice it would be that it’s important to remember every hound is different and will settle in at their own pace. There is no rush or timeframe to do certain things.”

“It’s been a privilege to give love and a home to such a deserving and gentle boy. I would absolutely recommend adopting a greyhound to anyone who has the time, patience and space to give to these beautiful dogs!”
