There is nothing we love more than seeing our Kennel Kids loved and thriving in their forever homes. And when it comes to our older boys and gals, we’re always so incredibly happy to see them get their chance to discover pet life.

Sweet Esther was nine years young when she arrived at Greysland. She quickly became a favourite amongst the vollies, thanks to her loving ways and gentle soul.

Charlotte and Tom couldn’t wait to adopt their own Kennel Kid. Although they weren’t sure what to expect when told Esther was an older hound, they were sure they wanted to give her a home. And six months later they couldn’t be happier with their decision.

“Our lovely girl Esther has been with us for six months, and we absolutely adore her” says Charlotte. “She has become such an important part of our family and we can’t imagine life without her!”

“Esther is such a gentle girl, getting along with other dogs and people alike. It’s been so wonderful to see her blossom and become more comfortable in her space. She has overcome a lot of separation anxiety since coming to live with us and can now manage whole days at home with enrichment puzzles while we’re at work.”

Esther arrived at Greysland with some skin and coat issues, which needed some serious TLC. With Charlotte and Tom’s care, she has made a remarkable improvement.

“She gets very mad at us when she arrives for a bath at our local pet warehouse, but it’s helped her to grow back sparkly grey fur to fill in what used to be bald patches on her back – she’s such a trooper!”

Esther also knows how to make a point. She loves her walks, and she knows when it’s time to go. “If we don’t take her out in time she stares at the door then back at us until we get her harness on” says Charlotte.

Outside of walks, her favourite things include BBQ chicken, her toys and snuggling in with her cuddlepillar. She’s also a bit of fashound, with an “ever-growing collection of jumpers” for her winter walks.

Do Charlotte and Tom think you should adopt a greyhound? The answer is a resounding yes.

“If you are thinking of adopting a greyhound, you should absolutely go for it, especially the older boys and gals! All of these beautiful hounds deserve a loving home, and they will change your life in the best way possible” says Charlotte.

“I’d like to think that older rescues give you even more love as they’ve been waiting for their forever home a little longer.”

“Greyhound Rescue has been absolutely fabulous every step of the way, from providing answers to millions of questions when we first took Esther home, to linking us up with a community of like-minded people.”

“We love our girl so much and can’t wait for more adventures with her!”
