The talented artist Pei Xiang Deacon has generously donated her stunning large-scale portrait of a greyhound to Greyhound Rescue. Titled “Shut Down”, the artwork will be auctioned off online with all proceeds going towards the rescue and rehabilitation of greyhounds to help them find their forever homes.
Pei Xiang, a recent year 12 graduate, is an amazing artist and long-time supporter of Greyhound Rescue. She is an avid lover of greyhounds, including her own special rescue hound, Rick. In 2016 when the ban on greyhound racing was reversed, Pei raised $400 for Greyhound Rescue instead of presents for her 13th birthday.
She is a truly exceptional young woman, and has also just received early entry to study Engineering and Medical Science at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Speaking of her painting, Pei explains: “My work endeavours to convey the repetitive cycle, impact, and abusive culture of greyhound racing. My artwork is dedicated to the 18,000 greyhounds that are killed in Australia every year and the volunteers who work tirelessly to save their lives”.
Greyhound Rescue President, Nat Panzarino, said: “Not only is Pei’s work beautiful, it is inspiring to see young people caring so passionately about a cause that is meaningful to them. Her commitment to helping hounds in creative and innovative ways, and using her talents to highlight this important cause is inspiring.”
The winning bidder will have the painting presented to them by Pei, accompanied by Greyhound Rescue’s volunteers and kennel kids at Greysland.

- Bidding closes at 8.00 pm on Sunday 2nd October 2022 (Eastern Standard Time).
- The painting measures 1.27m x 1m, acrylic on canvas (framed).
- If the winner is unable to travel to Greysland the painting can be posted at the buyer’s expense.
- This auction may be subject to an undisclosed reserve price. Item prices which do not meet the reserve are marked‡. Should the leading bid at expiry not meet the reserve price, the item will not be sold.
