Greyhound Rescue finds loving forever homes for greyhounds no longer wanted by the racing industry. We interviewed Jackie, who adopted greyhound Joon in September 2021, about her adoption experience.
Tell us a bit about Joon and what makes her special.
Joon is a love bug if there ever was one. She craves affection 24/7. Loves pats, scritches and lots of eye contact. She is the most gentle little girl, albeit a little bit of a sook but show me a grey that isn’t!
Joon has become the perfect 4th member to our family. She is so gentle and patient with our baby. You can be rest assured if Olive is in the high chair Joon isn’t far away waiting to share her meal.
What are a few of Joon’s favourite things?
Joon loves walks. There’re never enough walks. As soon as we get back from a walk, she is herding us to the door to go again. Her walk cup is bottomless! Coming in close behind walks has to be roaching. She roached within the first few hours with us and hasn’t stopped.
Was there anything special about Joon’s adoption?
She came to us after we lost our first boy. I knew that we had to open our hearts again to another grey but they had to be very special. We couldn’t have found a better fit. The most affectionate little snoot who has helped us heal from such an unbearable pain.
What would you say to someone thinking of adopting a rescue greyhound?
Greyhounds are incredible creatures, part dog part cat part alien. I could never imagine sharing my life with any other breed. Just be prepared to loose your couch.
Greyhound Rescue do such amazing work. They really have led the way in helping these beautiful animals get the recognition and understanding they deserve. They have supported us through two adoptions and hopefully many more.
