Despite some hurdles during the journey, when sweet Squizzy found his forever home with Glenn he blossomed into the friendly young grey he was always destined to be. The epitomy of patience with a simple desire to please, he loves his new life with Glenn – especially the neck rubs and ear tickles that come with it!
Glenn says that in his quiet home, Squizzy has plenty of opportunity to “enjoy long sleeps and be the centre of attention”.
“He loves a long, slow sniff and walk, exploring news spaces and meeting other dogs at the nearby cafe.”
And Glenn says that these days, it’s when Squizzy isn’t around or Glenn himself is away that he realises ”how important he is to my mood”.
“They are truly the best living creature to have around. Quiet, placid, easy to live with, great for apartments.”
Glenn says that Squizzy’s first trip to the beach was interesting to watch.
“It looked like he hadn’t seen small waves before, and was spooked each time they rolled up to him,” says Glenn.
“With gentle guidance Squizzy is learning not to be spooked by waves, and last time we went, he sat down in the water three times between waves.”
Glenn reflects on one episode with Squizzy where he displayed signs of resource guarding, and how with some extra guidance, both Squizzy and Glenn were able to learn from it.
“Once there was a treat caught inside a doona cover and Squizzy was trying to get it out without success,” Glenn explains. “As I went to help he became upset and barked at me.”
“My adoption coordinator from Greyhound Rescue calmly reminded me this is what resource guarding looks like. The problem was alleviated with this extra guidance.”
Squizzy’s journey to find Glenn may have had a few twists and turns, but it’s one he’s bound to think was worth the wait.
