You may be aware that in August 2021, the strata plan laws changed such that “An owner’s corporation cannot stop you from owning a pet unless the pet causes ‘unreasonable interference’”. To read the Government guidance on this, please click here.
This is great news however some schemes still have out-of-date by-laws specifying that dogs must be under a certain weight/size, applying other restrictions or requiring that you obtain permission before collecting the dog. This is why we ask that you confirm that you have permission from your strata plan before applying to adopt from Greyhound Rescue.
You can check your strata plan by-laws regarding pets or contact someone from the Owner’s Corporation and ask for something in writing providing permission to keep a greyhound. This letter (click here) provides information which may help with your request.
Some Owner’s Corporations require detailed information about the dog such as the microchip number, which will not be available until we match a hound with you. If this is the case, we suggest requesting something from the Owner’s Corporation explaining their process and that they don’t expect any issues with approval.
The permission document should be a letter on Owner’s Corporation letterhead or an email which includes the Owner’s Corporation signature block.
