Bridget Jones (Cat Tolerant) (Homed)

Bridget is in foster in the Blue Mountains with 5 other houndies, four cats, chickens, and a duck!

“I’m Bridget and when I arrived to GR I was very skinny and looking shabby not chic…but those days are behind me now. I told my foster mummy that I wanted a bottom the size of Brazil, just like Bridget Jones. Who wants to be a stick insect when you can have a sexy curvaceous toosh? Well I think I got what I was after… I arrived a scrawny 25 kg and am now filled out at 32kg. And I still look like a supermodel!

I’m looking for someone who will love me just the way I am – a little left of centre, goofy, snuggly, and wanting to adore you. I am looking for someone who would spend a lot of time at home, or has a doggy friend to keep me company while you are at work. I wouldn’t want to be a singleton again.  The last thing in the world you want is to come home to me sitting in my onsie rooing along to Jamie O’ Neal’s “All By  Myself.” It may be entertaining for you but I would be very sad!

I get along with cats and small dogs, but other doggies my size I much prefer the gents. If you are Colin Firth (or have the Colin Firth of the canine world) I am yours! Get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Meg (Homed)

Meg is kindly sponsored by Nicole.

“I’m Meg and my sisters Pearl, Biscuit, and Cookie were all lucky enough to find homes through GR. It’s my turn now! I arrived quite shy compared to my sisters, but thanks to all the lovely volunteers I have become much more confident I am good with small dogs but children can frighten me so I need a home without tiny humans! I need someone gentle and understanding who will help and watch me blossom into the best friend you ever had! I love bellyrubs once I feel relaxed around you and I won’t say no to a snuggle. If you think your house is zen enough for me get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Sammy (Homed)

Sammy is kindly sponsored by Macha.

“I’m Sammy and just like Sammy Davis Jnr I am quite the entertainer! I am a toe tapping, life loving young hound that can roo with the best of them if you ask me to sing. Nobody’s asked me yet though, I just know I’d be good at it if you did, I’m a great all rounder! I just want to love everybody and be the life of the party. I can be a bit of a comedian too, just ask me. Apparently I need a family that will give me firm boundaries as I am still really just a pup (just say you will, our shenannigans as we make our own Rat Pack will be just between us ok?) I also need somewhere that doesn’t have cats or small dogs, because they do nothing for my image. And I just know I can be the star that shines in your life if you let me! You just gotta let me be me! For more information about me or any of my kennel mates please contact the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Harmony (Homed)

“I’m Harmony, and me and my friend Melody came to GR a very sorry looking pair. We were thin from spending quite a long time lost in the bush, and wondering where our next meal would come from, before we were found and handed in to Hawkesbury Pound. The good folk there knew just the right number to call and I cannot believe how much our lives have changed. I have put on weight and got rid of all the nasty worms that were making me so sick, and I’m surrounded by the volunteers who spend time with me and let me know that I am loved. While Melody has gone into foster care I am still looking for my foster or forever home, where I am sure I will live with you most harmoniously as I am now a happy playful girl ready to begin the next stanza of my life! I am best suited to a home without cats or small dogs, but if the right boy my size came a long I’m sure we could begin a duet! For more information or to meet me please contact the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Sharlotte (Homed)

Sharlotte is sponsored by Liz!

Sharlotte is in foster with Bronwyn and family, and this is what her foster family has to say about her:

“Sharlotte is a sweet, funny, goofy, tiny greyhound girl, who claimed our couch and has called it home for the past few months.  She is great with children and her foster brother greyhound, but would not suite a home with cats or small fluffy dogs.  She would definitely suit a home where the owner is home a lot. She socialises very well with medium to large dogs, and would benefit from another dog to keep her company.

She sleeps through the night (7.30pm to 7am) and is toilet trained.  She came to us very unsure of stairs, and is slowly starting to master them.  She is VERY food oriented, so quite easy to train, and walks well on the lead. She also has been recalling very well at the dog park!

She is honestly such a pleasure.  Her tail wags, and her eyes light up whenever you walk near her.  She just wants a neck scratch and someone to sit with, and she is definitely ready to find her own forever family.”

Pebbles (Cat Tolerant) (Homed)

Pebbles is kindly sponsored by Zoe.

“I’m Pebbles and I’m a small black girl looking for a home. I’d like to ride with a family down the street, or just have some fun walking on our feet.  I’m a sharing caring kind of girl and socialise very well – did I mention some of my best friends are pussycats! I even like to share my plate with them! I am very good with small dogs and children, and I learn ever so quickly.  I am gentle, friendly, curious, and affectionate.  I’ll sit here and wait and dream of all the (yabba dabba do) good times we are going to have,  and I’ll be here when you’re ready – just contact the volunteers info@geryhoundrescue.com.au”

Frank Spencer (Homed)

Frank is kindly sponsored by Edina, Matt & Nerida.

Ooooh hello everybody! My name is Frank and apparently I’m rather inept at being a racer. I always try, no one could be more trying than me, but that’s  because up until now, no one thought  I would be better at being a pet. The fact is, there are lots of us who are “Frank Spencers” to the racing industry. But we aren’t failures, we are loveable, friendly houndies who want to spend our days playing with our toys, sleeping on comfy couches, and getting loved by a family. Being goofy is optional, but by no means disastrous. I am a happy boy who gives excellent kisses and I just know my forever family won’t be too far away now. As long as you don’t allow me to try and drive the car, or help with any repairs around the house we will be just fine! If you would like to give a home to one of us houndies patiently waiting to find out what they are good at (that’s a lot of sleeping by the way, and making sure the couch doesn’t fly away) get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Freya (Homed)

Freya is in foster in Canberra and this is what her foster family has to say about her:

“Freya is a lovely, charming girl who is just waiting to lay her heart at your feet. She wants to be your devoted shadow, and is prepared to adore you unconditionally! She turned five years old in February, but in many ways seems like a much younger hound. She is alert and interested in everything. She loves to ride in the car, and sits (yes, sits!) quietly in the back. I think it won’t be long before she decides the best way to travel would be with her head on your shoulder. Freya is an athletic girl who thinks nothing of omitting the stairs and leaping straight from ground to deck.

Freya is making good progress in learning to be a pet. She is currently living with two other greyhounds and a little Italian greyhound. She has good manners inside the house, and is perfectly toilet-trained. She would very much like to be allowed on your couches and beds, but is very good about respecting the rules of her foster home, where this is not allowed! She learned her name quickly, and sits on command, which is always a good party trick for a greyhound. She has learned not to barge her way through doors and gates. She happily eats her meals in her crate, and willingly enters it to go to bed. She usually sleeps quietly all night long, but does occasionally mention that she would much rather spend the night with you.

Freya’s ideal home would be one where her person/people are not absent for large chunks of the day. She has been very friendly with all the children she has met so far. She would definitely appreciate having another doggy friend (would you like two greys? We have more if you do not already have another dog!).

Freya is:

  • Age: 5
  • Desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • Located in Canberra
  • Adoption Cost $350
  • Cat Tolerant: No
  • Small Dog Tolerant: Yes

Tiger (Homed)

Tiger is kindly sponsored by Emma.

“Hello I’m Tiger – yes I know I don’t look like a tiger and I am not a cat, but that’s my name! Perhaps it is because being a greyhound I am as graceful and athletic as one? Anyhow, I am a distinguished older gentleman, a little silver around the whiskers perhaps but that just means I am wearing the badge of wisdom. Think of me like George Clooney, handsome, grey, and he gets all the ladies! I have plenty of life and love to give, I just need a someone to give it to. I hear there are wonderful comfy things called sofas where people and lucky houndies can spend their evenings curled up together – I would like to try one of those. I hear these lucky houndies only have to run to their foodbowl and bed (and only if they want to). I like the sound of being part of a family, and I don’t ask for much. I am the quiet type and despite being  bigger boy I honestly won’t take up much room. If you would like to adopt or foster a hound please contact info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Diamond (Homed)

My name is Diamond and I am as priceless! You may think with such a posh name I would be a snob but I can assure you I am anything but! Unfortunately I had a bit of an accident with my tail so it is not as long as it used to be, but I have such a joy for life that I haven’t let it get me down. I am just happy to be with anyone that wants to play with me and the volunteers think that I am hilarious (apparently  am a  bit of a clown, but I ‘m just being myself!) As I am such a treasure beyond compare you would not want any other jewels as they would pale beside me. If you would like to give me pride of place on your sofa contact the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”
