Greyhounds on ‘Death Row’

Update on 24.12.10

Of the 15 original greyhounds there are now only 4 needing help. The immediate danger of these greyhounds being PTS is over but we still need foster carers for these 4. Please help if you can.

These greyhounds were taken by a Council and are currently impounded. With Xmas, both Pounds and kennels are overflowing and these greys are taking up much needed space.

PS  The greyhounds are situated in Sydney, but if interstate help is available please also contact us on 02 9453 0602 or 0412 562 104

If you are not in a position to help with fostering/adopting, you might consider a donation to help with the expenses the 15 are incurring.

Staying home for the holidays?

If you are staying home for the Xmas and New Year holidays, why not give a greyhound a special Xmas present and foster one over that period of time.

We always need foster carers but never more so than at this time of year. Can you imagine a greyhound spending Xmas Day in a kennel, on its own, while we are all enjoying the festive season? Why not share your love and happiness with a gentle, affectionate greyhound who will return that love many times over?

If you feel you can help, please contact Peter or Janet on 0412 562 104 in Sydney or Kayleigh on 0424 569 148 in Melbourne.

Thank you and have a good Xmas.

Fundraiser at the Pure Platinum Club

Last year the Pure Platinum Club did a very successful fundraiser  for us and this year they have done the same, raising $1830 of much needed funds for Greyhound Rescue, which will help us continue to help the greyhounds.

If you  were unable to attend the fundraiser but would like to support Greyhound Rescue, you can still do so by going to the ‘How you can Help’ section at the top of the Home page and donating through Paypal or by deposit straight into our bank account Greyhound Rescue Inc., BSB 012289, Account No 5247 92379. We urgently need more funds.

We are very grateful to The Pure Platinum Club and in particular Rob for his efforts and the generous donation through the fundraiser. Thank you Rob and everyone at the PPC.

Good news, bad news and DESPERATE NEWS

The good news is that to date this year we have found homes for 40 greyhounds which has far exceeded our expectations and we are thrilled with this achievement.

The bad news is that we still have about 40 greyhounds looking for homes and DESPERATELY NEED MORE FOSTER CARERS to get greyhounds out of kennels and into homes, especially the newly arrived 8 month old pups, Betty and Smokey, who need close and personal attention.

The DESPERATE NEWS is that we are DESPERATELY SHORT OF FINANCE which is needed to get the greyhounds desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, etc, kennelled, fed, transported, etc. etc. Without more finance WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SAVE THE GREYHOUNDS which otherwise would not have a life after racing. We are a full charity and donations can receive a tax deductible receipt. Can you help us now please by going to the ‘How you can help’ section at the top  and donating via Paypal or by paying straight into our bank account ‘Greyhound Rescue Inc’, BSB 012289, Account no. 5247 92379

We would be very grateful for your support, no matter how large or small the donation. Thank you for your help.

Leichardt Stall and Next Stall

On Sunday 10th October we did a stall at the Leichardt Council’s ‘Dog Day Out’, and the photos show a general gathering plus Amy having ‘time out’ from the hard work of being patted by everyone!! The day was very successful with a number of helpers and greyhound adopters turning up. The raffle raised some much needed funds and the main part of the raffle was a Windows 7 software package donated by Microsoft. Ironically the raffle was won by Karen Convy who adopted Holly, one of our beautiful greyhounds, only a few months ago. Greyhound Rescue also took part in a session for the public, where we could explain the common misunderstandings about greyhounds and what great pets they make.

Thank you to all those who turned up to make the day a successful one.

The next stall is this Sunday, 24thOctober, when Mosman Council are having their ‘Pets Day Out’ at the ‘Alan Border Oval’, The Crescent, Mosman from 10am to 3pm. Come and meet the greyhounds. Unfortunately this event was cancelled due to bad weather.

We will also be doing a Sausage Sizzle at Petbarn, Brookvale on Saturday 23rd October from 10am to 3pm.

Stacey passed away

On Tuesday 5th Oct, Stacey, our grand old lady sadly passed away. Stacey would have been 14 in November and had an eventful life, winning races and having at least two litters. We have homed her offspring Princess, Baby and Shawee and April, who has always lived with Stacey, will now join Shawee at a later date.

Dog Day by the Bay, Pittwater

On Sunday 26th September, we had a stall at Pittwater’s ‘Dog Day by the Bay’, held at the beautifully scenic Rowlands Reserve, Bayview. Both the weather and scenery were stunning and a great time was had by all, with some of our greyhounds looking for homes present and also some adopted ones coming back for more company. Two greyhounds, Poppy and Sandy, entered one of the ‘races’, although they were beaten by a retriever!! Not surprising they came to rescue at a young age!! And no one told them to stop at the end of the race so they continued on out into the water, having a great time!!

Our raffle raised some much needed funds and many thanks to Fiona at Forestville Podiatry Clinic for donating the music centre prize, which was won by Mrs Hunt from Collaroy.

Many thanks to Mike, Charlotte, Mirren, John, R, Andre, Joe for all their hard work and anyone else who came along to make the day a resounding success.

Our next event is a stall at Leichardt’s ‘Dog Day Out’ on 10th Oct. Come and see us there.

Increased Costs

In April of this year our vet costs were increased and we have tried to absorb these costs up until now. However, we regret that we will now have to pass on some of these costs and increase our basic charge for a greyhound to $300 from the current $250.

Stall at Forestville

It was a wet and windy start to the day, but Mike, Fiona, Charlotte and Natasha battled the elements to get our stall going at the Forestville Fair. They did a great job of presenting greyhounds to the public, especially as Anna was wearing our new Greyhound Rescue colourful vest, as modelled by Joe and Nadine’s Sandy.

We are grateful to Pet Paraphernalia who donated two coats, the proceeds to stay with Greyhound Rescue. Thank you to them for their generosity. Furthermore if anyone buys a coat from Pet Paraphernalia and mentions Greyhound Rescue, then they are willing to donate 10% of the cost to Greyhound Rescue. So please buy lots of coats, you can always use them next winter!!!
