Pebbles (Cat Tolerant) (Homed)

Pebbles is kindly sponsored by Zoe.

“I’m Pebbles and I’m a small black girl looking for a home. I’d like to ride with a family down the street, or just have some fun walking on our feet.  I’m a sharing caring kind of girl and socialise very well – did I mention some of my best friends are pussycats! I even like to share my plate with them! I am very good with small dogs and children, and I learn ever so quickly.  I am gentle, friendly, curious, and affectionate.  I’ll sit here and wait and dream of all the (yabba dabba do) good times we are going to have,  and I’ll be here when you’re ready – just contact the volunteers info@geryhoundrescue.com.au”

Frank Spencer (Homed)

Frank is kindly sponsored by Edina, Matt & Nerida.

Ooooh hello everybody! My name is Frank and apparently I’m rather inept at being a racer. I always try, no one could be more trying than me, but that’s  because up until now, no one thought  I would be better at being a pet. The fact is, there are lots of us who are “Frank Spencers” to the racing industry. But we aren’t failures, we are loveable, friendly houndies who want to spend our days playing with our toys, sleeping on comfy couches, and getting loved by a family. Being goofy is optional, but by no means disastrous. I am a happy boy who gives excellent kisses and I just know my forever family won’t be too far away now. As long as you don’t allow me to try and drive the car, or help with any repairs around the house we will be just fine! If you would like to give a home to one of us houndies patiently waiting to find out what they are good at (that’s a lot of sleeping by the way, and making sure the couch doesn’t fly away) get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Freya (Homed)

Freya is in foster in Canberra and this is what her foster family has to say about her:

“Freya is a lovely, charming girl who is just waiting to lay her heart at your feet. She wants to be your devoted shadow, and is prepared to adore you unconditionally! She turned five years old in February, but in many ways seems like a much younger hound. She is alert and interested in everything. She loves to ride in the car, and sits (yes, sits!) quietly in the back. I think it won’t be long before she decides the best way to travel would be with her head on your shoulder. Freya is an athletic girl who thinks nothing of omitting the stairs and leaping straight from ground to deck.

Freya is making good progress in learning to be a pet. She is currently living with two other greyhounds and a little Italian greyhound. She has good manners inside the house, and is perfectly toilet-trained. She would very much like to be allowed on your couches and beds, but is very good about respecting the rules of her foster home, where this is not allowed! She learned her name quickly, and sits on command, which is always a good party trick for a greyhound. She has learned not to barge her way through doors and gates. She happily eats her meals in her crate, and willingly enters it to go to bed. She usually sleeps quietly all night long, but does occasionally mention that she would much rather spend the night with you.

Freya’s ideal home would be one where her person/people are not absent for large chunks of the day. She has been very friendly with all the children she has met so far. She would definitely appreciate having another doggy friend (would you like two greys? We have more if you do not already have another dog!).

Freya is:

  • Desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • Located in Canberra

  • Small Dog Tolerant: Yes

Tiger (Homed)

Tiger is kindly sponsored by Emma.

“Hello I’m Tiger – yes I know I don’t look like a tiger and I am not a cat, but that’s my name! Perhaps it is because being a greyhound I am as graceful and athletic as one? Anyhow, I am a distinguished older gentleman, a little silver around the whiskers perhaps but that just means I am wearing the badge of wisdom. Think of me like George Clooney, handsome, grey, and he gets all the ladies! I have plenty of life and love to give, I just need a someone to give it to. I hear there are wonderful comfy things called sofas where people and lucky houndies can spend their evenings curled up together – I would like to try one of those. I hear these lucky houndies only have to run to their foodbowl and bed (and only if they want to). I like the sound of being part of a family, and I don’t ask for much. I am the quiet type and despite being  bigger boy I honestly won’t take up much room. If you would like to adopt or foster a hound please contact info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Diamond (Homed)

My name is Diamond and I am as priceless! You may think with such a posh name I would be a snob but I can assure you I am anything but! Unfortunately I had a bit of an accident with my tail so it is not as long as it used to be, but I have such a joy for life that I haven’t let it get me down. I am just happy to be with anyone that wants to play with me and the volunteers think that I am hilarious (apparently  am a  bit of a clown, but I ‘m just being myself!) As I am such a treasure beyond compare you would not want any other jewels as they would pale beside me. If you would like to give me pride of place on your sofa contact the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Dot (Cat Tolerant) (Homed)

Dot is kindly sponsored by Sally.

“Hello my name is Dot and I am not as small as some but since my name is Dot and dots are very small, I can curl up so I don’t seem quite so big! With my markings you could confuse me as a “greymatian” but I promise I am all greyhound. I am looking for a family that wants to have some fun – I am very affectionate and love to play games – I also really like  kids – they don’t mind having fun or getting a bit mucky while doing it! I am quite active for a greyhound so I would do better in a house with a yard rather than a small space. I also did well in my cat test, so I have potential to live with a confident cat that won’t mind me bouncing around every so often before I fall into an exhausted heap and sleep the afternoon away. ”

Dot is:

  • 4 years old
  • Desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • Adoption cost:$350
  • Located in Sydney
  • Small Dog Tolerant: Has potential to live with some smaller dogs
  • Cat Tolerant: Yes – with a confident cat
  • Children: Yes – excellent with children over 10

Joey (Homed)

Joey is sponsored by Lisa.

“I’m Joey and I love to jump and zoom down the runs at the kennels. I’m very friendly and playful with other dogs medium to large sized but cats and small dogs just aren’t my bag baby! I am very good on the lead, and I’m looking for a family that will let me demonstrate my good looks by modelling an array of doggy fashions and letting me practice my posing skills – I do my own version of “Blue Steel” called “Woe Face” and I’m very good at it. I’ve been practising on those volunteers who all fall for are charmed by my good looks and I get lots of pats and cuddles, which I  adore, but I need an a new audience! The problem is, not everyone wants a big blue boy like me, even with my good looks, which makes me very sad. I may not even have to practice my Woe Face soon if someone doesn’t adopt me…wait, you say you like boys? Well what are you waiting for? Come and get me! You’ll just need to get in touch with the volunteers first, info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Greyhound Rescue Online Stores

We are always looking for ways to fundraise at GR and so we have just opened another online store where you can purchase our GR bandannas specifically for houndies. These bandannas were designed and printed by our volunteers and supporters and are designed to educate the public about the hound wearing it. We have Adopt Me ones for our foster carers to show off on their foster kids, the Muzzle Is For the Law Not For Me for those houndies that have not yet had their greenhound test, and I’ve Been Saved for any of your rescued dogbabies. We also have some plain ones, and more products will be added in the coming weeks and months, so check back often!

Go to www.greyhoundrescue.bigcartel.com to take a look and support us. Along with our existing Redbubble store, we hope to raise funds from these sales that will go back to our work – looking after the greyhounds in our care. Every little bit counts whether it be from the generosity of our sponsors and supporters who donate to us, our stalls, auctions, and  online stores like these. Thankyou so much to everyone who supports us, your generosity is amazing!

Jillian (Homed)

Jillian is kindly sponsored by Margot & Sue.

“They say that good things come in small packages – my name is Jillian and I am definitely one of those! You see, because I am such a small girl I have to make myself heard to all the other bigger greyhounds, and the volunteers or else I might be missed! It’s not my fault I am petite! You know, everyone always assumes greyhounds are all big dogs, but that isn’t true at all. We come in all sorts of sizes….well…generally…sometimes? OK, so there is a normal greyhound size range, and I may not fit in a handbag like a Chihuahua but who would want one of those when you could have little old me anyway? I’m lots of fun,  I love to play and I am one pocket rocket when I do a zoomie. But when I’m worn out with all my toys and all of that I am more than happy to lounge around on my day bed and keep an eye on what the volunteers are doing! If I sound like your kinda gal get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

Norm (Cat Tolerant) (Homed)

Norm is kindly sponsored by Elizabeth.

“Hi I’m Norm. Do you know why I think they called me Norm? Because I’m not just any norm I am that infamous “The Norm” that everyone keeps talking about. Why you ask? Well, a normal (er, that is a norm greyhound) does little else other than sleep. And sleep. And sleep some more. And get up for a zoomie, a snack, and then it’s back to bed to recover. Everything is just too much effort for a greyhound, despite what you may see when we’ve had to run around a track. Nobody understands that we don’t run all day! We hardly run at all! We’re sprinters, not marathon runners. So that is why I am The Norm. Because I’m the epitome of greyhound normal! The perfect example! I really don’t bother getting up much at all. In fact, my favourite song is “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars. You know, the one that goes “Today I don’t fell like doing anything… I just wanna lay in my bed…” I’d sing it all to you but I’m really overdue for my snooze…..zzzzzzzzzzz”  If you would like to experience this for yourself get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au and The Norm could be your perfect match!
