“Hi I’m Peggy- Sue! I’m here to tell you my story about my dramatic arrival to GR!

I arrived with my friends Elly-May and JK in the early hours of a Friday morning but we weren’t feeling too good. Lucky for us our transporter got us here super quick but all of us were dehydrated and in such poor condition we needed to go straight to the dogtors! Imagine that, it was like an episode of ER! OK, well maybe not quite the same as that George Clooney wasn’t on call but we did have some very nice Dogtors and Dognurses. Covered in fleas and full of worms, and all of us needing to put on weight we were a sorry sight and in need of urgent TLC.

We had to stay in the houndie hospital for a few days to have fluid therapy and start medication  -but we all made it through! We are feeling  much better now and we have all put on weight especially me I was very skinny and SO HUNGRY! My poor little bones were poking out and I wasn’t as good looking as I am now. The thing is, although we were saved and GR are generously supported by the dogtors at Vineyard Vets Greyhound Rescue still has a very big bill to cover!  Our emergency care as well as a lot of new arrivals that needed vetwork last mont cost over $4700!!! That is an awful lot to save us houndies and get us ready for our forever homes. Do you think you guys could help us out, just a little bit? You can?! We love you already!”

Thank you everyone for your continued support and generosity. If you are able to help us again and spare a few dollars to help us out with our vet bill for our saved hounds we would appreciate it. If you can’t help us out on this occasion please share our post – every dollar counts!

The Ban Goes Through! A Message From Our Founders

Mikey 2
Peter and Janet would like to thank everyone for their continued support since the racing ban was announced on July 7th.  Thank you to all of you who have called and written to your own as well as many other State MP’s to support Premier Mike Baird’s brave decision and put an end to Greyhound Racing in NSW from July 1st 2017. We are amazed by the historic and momentous moment that took place in State Parliament in the early hours of 24th August 2016 and acknowledge and thank everyone’s commitment and contributions large or small wherever you are to get our beloved greyhounds to this day.
The work isn’t over yet. Once again we would like to assure everyone that our top priority is the hounds welfare and we will continue to work hard to find homes for the greyhounds that will no longer be wanted. We are already in contact with the task force that has been put in place to begin the enormous job that lies ahead to save and rehome the greyhounds and in the coming weeks and months there are many groups and people who are going to be very busy!
We would also like to remind everyone that although greyhound racing in NSW will end next year, our friends in other states are still working and speaking up to make it an end Australia wide. Keep writing, calling, and being the voice for greyhounds everywhere.
What can you do to help us now?
Adopt, foster, sponsor, or volunteer. Spread the word for us. Tell people about the work we do! We always are in need of donations whether it is funds to pay our many bills or items for our kennels. The hounds appreciate every little bit that comes our way.
Thank you to every single one of our volunteers past and present who have put in an incredible amount of work, and your commitment and dedication to the greyhounds in our care. Whether hands on at kennels, or the hive of activity behind the scenes, the enormous amount of time sacrificed has not gone unnoticed.  We also give a massive thank you to all of our sponsors and donors without whom we could not have done or continue to do the work we do. Let’s celebrate this amazing news!

Spike (Homed)

Hi ya I’m Spike, and unlike my name I’m not spikey at all! I am a relaxed cool dude looking for my forever couch. I have a extra special quirk in that I love to “grin” when I say hello to people so although it looks  a bit scarey I promise you I’m the goofiest laid back lad around! Now wouldn’t you love a dog with that extra special talent?I’m great with kiddies, and I am fairly relaxed around smaller dogs so far. Really, I’m just a loveable lump of hound that I know you won’t be able to resist. Get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

City 2 Surf 2016

DSC06804

Put on your running shoes and come join us for this year’s City 2
Surf on August 14th! We have a team participating this year to raise much needed funds for Greyhound Rescue and we would love you to join us. You don’t have to run, walkers are also welcome (including mums and dads with prams) just choose the starting group that best fits your physical fitness.

More of a couch potato like our houndies? That’s ok, we would love some sponsors for our team members, or even some cheerleaders along the way. Spread the word for us at your workplace, and among family and friends, every little bit counts.

If you would like to join us you need to register by following this link at the City 2 Surf Website. You can join our team the Greyhound Rescue Racers which is already set up. You will then need to start your individual fundraising page here at Everyday Hero and join our fundraising team there too. Don’t forget to share your fundraising page and update your followers on how you are doing!

We will be meeting after the run for some refreshments, and maybe there might be a hound or two at the end to give us all a hug for our efforts! Any questions please contact Kate kate@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Winter Magic Festival 2016

Greyhound Rescue is participating in this year’s largest event in the Blue Mountains, the Winter Magic Festival! Our Mountain Hounds volunteers will have some greyhound related goodies to sell, volunteers to chat to, and a hound or two to hug! Wrap up warm and come say hello . This is a free event, but parking is extremely limited, so we suggest using public transport. Hopping off at Katoomba Station will get you a few footsteps away from the main event. There are stalls the whole length of the main street, food, entertainment, and more. Doggies are welcome as this is an outdoor venue – however it does get very crowded and noisy online. The Grand Parade does feature drummers, musicians, and similar, so please use your best judgement as to whether your doggie would be comfortable in this environment. See you there!

Tax Time Donations, or How to Be A Superhero!

Tax Time

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone that responded so generously to our tax time appeal. As always we are in need no matter what time of year, and with the recent news we are going to be very busy! Please keep us in mind and thankyou for your support!

Hiya people, it’s Deedee here (actually, that’s SuperDee to you). I’ve just realised we are into June and that means it’s tax time coming! I’ve been sitting here using my superpowers to try and balance the books and GR could sure do with some donations. So many vet bills, kennel bills, treatments to buy… it never stops! As it’s the end of the financial year very soon could you please think of us real casino slots online real money houndies waiting for homes when you are getting ready for tax time? GR receives no funding and relies on donations from kind people like yourselves to keep saving us. Every donation over $2 is tax deductible, so you can help balance your books to help ours…plus, you’ll get  a nice Superhero feeling that you’ve helped save a hound. Win-win all round I say!

To make a donation you can do so via direct bank deposit or paypal (although please keep in mind paypal charges fees so we don’t get all of your generosity…boo). If you do direct bank deposit send an email through to Papa Peter and Mama Janet peter@greyhoundrescue.com.au to let them know about your donation.

Thankyou! Love, Deedee xo
