Colin finds his new best friend

Sep 6, 2022 | Success Stories

The correct pairing was crucial for pawrents Stacey and Tim when they began the process of adopting a Kennel Kid. They were looking for a housemate for resident pooch Felix, who suffered with separation anxiety, with a baby also on the way.

Colin, formerly known as Panther, was the Kennel Kid that ticked all their boxes.

It became clear very quickly that Colin and Felix had formed a special bond.

“His connection with our little dog Felix was almost instant” says Stacey. “Felix taught Colin how to play… and Colin taught Felix how to relax”

This special bond also helped Colin feel more comfortable on his walks.

“When we were trying to get him used to walking, he would only go a short distance before he would freeze, regardless of whether we had treats” explains Stacey.

“I would have to ring Tim to bring Felix on a walk to collect us”.

It turns out Colin just needed to catch a glimpse of Felix, since he would then follow Felix home without a second thought.

“We think he would follow Felix anywhere. Without a doubt Colin loves us, but Felix is absolutely his favourite.”

Walks still can take a little longer than normal some days, because everyone wants to hear about Colin.

“Be prepared to talk to all kinds of people who want to stop and have a chat about your greyhound. I think generally there is a lot of interest out there for hounds and the people who adopt them.”

Well and truly settled into his new home, Colin now seems to only have two modes. Completely chilled out or completely switched on. If he’s not having a snooze, he’s zooming around the yard or pushing everyone out the door for a walk.

And he puts on quite the show when Tim gets home from work.

“This is Colin’s time to zoom around the house like mad – and he insists on Tim zooming with him. They chase each other around the house like lunatics almost daily.”

Colin officially became a big brother to a beautiful baby girl in his new home.

“Colin is instinctively very gentle around her” says Stacey. “Mostly I think he finds her quite boring.”

Stacey and Tim are thankful for the care and consideration that went into finding the right match for them.

“With a little dog and a baby on the way, we were conscious we couldn’t just bring any dog into our family. So to have the team at Greyhound Rescue vetting both us and the hounds until they found a suitable match was important to us.”
