It was just the two of them in July 2021 when Jack and Emma decided to put in an application to adopt a greyhound from Greyhound Rescue. Little did they know the love, joy (and chaos!) that would soon be descending on their doorstep – in the adorable shape of Olive (formerly Brioche).
“Life would be pretty boring without her, that’s for sure. Olive has stolen our hearts and we are now crazy greyhound people!” says Jack.
“Olive is the boss of the house. She is often found lazing around being a couch potato, but she has a cheeky streak. With a flick of her tail and a sassy look, you know she is about to get up to mischief!
Olive’s favourite thing to do is going for ‘walkies’.
“Without fail when my 6am alarm goes off, I hear Olive jump up, do a BIGGGG STRETCHHH and a little yawn. She then shoves her snoot right in my face to let me know she is ready to go for a walk and I need to get up!
“We haven’t missed a morning yet.”
Adopting a rescue greyhound is not without its challenges, but Jack assures us that it is worth every second.
“Olive’s excitement levels were a problem at the beginning. She would get overexcited and struggle to calm herself down, meaning she’d become overwhelmed.
“We are very aware of this and continue to monitor it. I think now we have a stronger bond with her, she knows she is safe with us and it’s easier to manage these episodes, which are very rare nowadays.
If you’re thinking of adopting a greyhound, Jack would “100% recommend going through Greyhound Rescue”.
“This was our first time owning a dog and we felt so supported and we continue to receive support and advise from the Greyhound Rescue community to this day.”
