Greyhound Rescue finds loving forever homes for greyhounds no longer wanted by the racing industry. We interviewed Sally and Hamish, who adopted greyhound Parsley in April 2021, about their adoption experience.
Tell us a little bit about Parsley.
We kept the name ‘Parsley’ when we adopted her because we thought it was unique and suited her well. She’s such a quirky girl.
What’s her favourite thing to do?
Parsley loves her walks! She gets very excited when the joggers go on and the lead comes out. She also loves to lay around in the backyard, especially in the back corner surrounded by the cool trees in summer, and out on the grass in the sun on cooler days.
How has Parsley fit into your family?
Very easily! She is part of my regular walks and joins us each night watching TV together. She loves a pat from us and from all visitors she knows.
Do you have any funny stories from life with Parsley so far?
She’s now down one toe after running around the backyard and breaking it while we were away. It was the first time we went away for more than a night – classic! She was so stoic. She was limping but did not make a noise at all to show that she was in pain. When we took her to the vet, it was clear it was broken when the vet moved it and it wobbled!!
What would you say to someone thinking about adopting a greyhound?
Greyhounds are a fantastic pet to have. If you want a companion who has beautiful fur, is loving, smart, not too active, and loves pats, then this is the dog for you.
The process of adopting a greyhound with Greyhound Rescue is very thorough and effective. They choose an appropriate dog for your lifestyle and family. They were very supportive and were available for any issues that popped up. They provided all relevant information too.
