A ‘Rosa’ by any other name …

Oct 20, 2019 | Success Stories

Inquisitive and friendly Rosa struck gold with pawrents Caroline and Joe, who have given this ‘little wolf’ a loving and fun-filled home in the Inner West.

“We’re so lucky that we found Rosa. She loves inner city life! She comes everywhere with us – to the pub, to a cafe, to visit our friends. She loves our life and all the people she meets, all the chips she steals and all the pats she gets.”

Sadly, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for this lovely little family. Two months after adopting Rosa, Caroline and Joe found out that she had cancer. Luckily, they caught it early and Rosa underwent two operations to remove the tumour on her head, which were ultimately successful.

“Seeing her sick was heartbreaking, but she was a model patient and was back to her adorable, cheeky self pretty quickly. Other than the impressive 4-inch scar on her head, you’d never know she was so sick earlier this year.”

According to Caroline, Rosa is back with a vengeance and blossoming! With every passing day, she comes more and more out of her shell.

“She’s so cheeky, and such a diva! She borks every morning at 6am to let us know she’s awake and ready for cuddles. She nicks our shoes and socks and throws them around the house and borks at other dogs when she’s on leash.”

“Most of the time, she’s Little Miss Independent, but when she decides she needs some love, she’ll jump up on the sofa and make sure she gets nothing but our absolute undivided attention!”

“She’s also obsessed with chasing birds. She’s convinced she’ll catch an ibis one day, bless her.”

Rosa is an active member of the Greyhound Rescue alumni community in the Inner West. Most mornings, Rosa, Caroline and Joe can be found at Alexandria Park meeting up with other rescued greyhounds and their pawrents.

“Seeing the greys running and playing together is so rewarding. The community is strong and has been such a great support as we’ve gotten used to having a greyhound.”

“We also received amazing support from Greyhound Rescue before and post-adoption. Our Adoption Coordinator has been there every step of the way, making sure we had all the info we needed, answering any questions we have, and celebrating Rosa’s successes right along with us.”

Caroline, Joe and Rosa are now helping Greyhound Rescue to rehome other beautiful greyhounds, providing a foster home for handsome Elwood so he can learn the ropes of pet life!

When asked what she’d say to someone thinking of adopting a greyhound, Caroline responded: “Greyhounds are such beautiful dogs who need a lot of love and patience, so be honest with yourself about the time you have to spend with a dog. Oh, and get pet insurance!”
