Tax deduction for donations now available

This week we have received the good news that we have been endorsed as a deductible gift recipient.

In simple terms this means that any donations made to Greyhound Rescue are now tax deductible. So, if you or your friends want to make a donation and require a receipt, please make a point of asking for one.

Victorian Greyhounds do well

Our new representative in Victoria, Kayleigh, is working wonders down there. Of the 7 greyhounds that we have sent down so far, Shawee has already been adopted into a new home with Ruth and Tony, Butch has gone on a two week trial with another family and the others are all settled into excellent foster homes.

So congratulations to Ruth and Tony for adopting our first Victorian greyhound and particular thanks to Kayleigh for the hard work and effort she is putting in on behalf of Greyhound Rescue in Victoria. We and the greyhounds very much appreciate your dedication to the task of finding homes for these beautiful animals.

Curly goes to Curl Curl!!!

He came with the name of Joe because the ladies at the Pound needed a name to put on his papers, but he soon became known as Curly because of his most unusual tail.

And to make the story even more unusual, on Monday of this week Curly went to new home and guess where? Curl Curl of course on Sydney’s Northern Beaches!!!

Good luck to Curly, who has been joined in his new home by girl friend, the beautiful Maggie the Smooch

Oldies find homes

p1130514Stacey came with 4 of her offspring. We found a home for Princess who is 9 years old, even before she went on the website and this week Baby, 8 years old, also found a home. It is wonderful that there are kind people out there who are willing to take on the not so young greyhounds and give them a comfortable and loving home in their later years.

Our main priority now is to find a home for Stacey,  and daughter April, so that Stacey’s remaining days are not spent in kennels. She deserves better than that. Have a look at Stacey in the ‘Dogs Available’ section and if you feel you have a home to offer this grand old lady, then please contact us as soon as possible.

Garage Sale raises $1840!!

p1100606The beautiful Sharon, pictured with greyhounds Solo and Rex, has a big and generous heart and is also a genius at raising money. Sharon offered to do a garage sale for us, the second one she has done and raised an incredible $1840!! She worked very hard for us and we cannot thank Sharon enough for all her efforts and any of her friends who also gave a hand or donated items. Thanks must also go Fiona and daughters Charlotte and Natasha for baking cakes and donating lots of their Barbie dolls and to Maureen who also baked some cakes.

Thank you Sharon, we very much appreciate what you have done for the greyhounds.

Engagement present for Greyhound Rescue

The two greyhounds pictured, all rugged up for winter, are Billie and Millie, brother and sister who we homed to Bec in Newcastle about 18 months ago. At the time the twins were only 6 months old and really fell on their feet, having a beautiful home with Bec and Sam.

18 months on, Bec and Sam got engaged and had a party. Instead of receiving presents, Bec and Sam asked for donations to Greyhound Rescue and raised $1072.20!! So we would like to thank all the guests of the Sam West and Bec Greentree Engagement Party for their generosity and support. We, and all the greyhounds that benefit, are overwhelmed with everyone’s support and we must thank Bec and Sam in particular for being so kind and thoughtful to forego their engagement presents.

Bec and Sam wrote:

‘We were so happy to do this and we hope that this money will help you continue the wonderful work you do saving other Billie’s and Millie’s out there!  Sam and I could not imagine our lives without our twins, and with the love they give us everyday this was the least we could do.’

and also:

‘you would have been very proud of your twins they are great ambassadors for their breed!  In their normal not party lives things have been going pretty much swimmingly for the both of them, they are in great health and are forever happy and willing to have a game or a belly rub……… our only family disputes come at bath time! We must wash Millie first because being the brains of the operation she will hind and not return if she sees the plastic tub being fill up!  Both of them have PJ’s in winter to keep them warm at night and there are photos above showing just how funny they look in them.’

Thank you Bec and Sam and we hope that Billie and Millie will continue to give you lots of happiness and that you both have a long and happy life together.

Greyhound Rescue is deeply indebted to Amy Cooper, a journalist with The Sun Herald and also to The Spanton Media Group. As part of a work project, Amy, with the help of David Spanton, raised some funds in the course of their work and Amy decided that Greyhound Rescue should receive a share of the proceeds. As a result we were invited to a Party celebrating the project in the Piano Room at Kings X and duly presented with a cheque for $1000 with a further $130 being raised on the night. Greyhound Patch attended the party with us, enjoyed the high life and being a celebrity, although she declined the cocktails!!

Many thanks to Amy and David from ourselves, but more particularly from the greyhounds that we will now be able to save with this wonderful donation.

Great News

In the last two weeks 6 greyhounds have found their forever homes and two more have gone on trial.

Joseph and Susie have joined Nick in Canberra, Patch and Socks have joined Peter and Vanessa in Katoomba, Holly has joined Karen in Newtown and Anna has joined Mike and Fiona’s family in Forestville. We wish all these families the best of luck and thank everyone for giving the greyhounds a home.

Roger, ‘The Dag’, and Tallulah are half way through their trial period with Victoria in Pennant Hills and Victoria is ecstatic about her new friends.

It also seems that Athena has found a home even before she got to join us!! It must be a record!!
