Quickly adapting to his inner-city life with Sandy, Popper has brought with him much fun and laughter.
Popper, formerly known as Calexico, is chill, curious, and a little bit goofy. And like so many of our beloved houndies, he loves his food. So much so he occasionally does a sneaky pinch of it from the table.
“I was very surprised at how quickly Popper adapted the inner-city life,” says Sandy. “He pretty much came in toilet trained and had no problems walking on leash. It took him about a week to get used to living in a small flat, and maybe another month to get used to how busy it was outside.”
He is getting to know the back streets of the Inner West well, loving nothing more than exploring the local café and shops, stopping every now and again for some well-deserved pats – for being a very good boy of course!
And while Sandy says adopting a greyhound is not a small commitment, she believes that if you are ready and dedicated, the rewards will exceed expectations.
“Popper is very much part of my small family (most of the time just him and me),” says Sandy. “Popper teaches me how to have fun, live in the moment and always focus on the next good thing.”
“The other special thing about this journey was how much support Greyhound Rescue has offered,” Sandy says.
“Although I’m not a frequent social media user, I noticed there was a very supportive and engaging community online. I also frequently run into people who adopted greyhounds and there is a very good community support in my local area.”
“Although it might take a little bit of time, everyone I came across in the organisation definitely puts the welfare of both hound and people as top priority.”
