Obtaining permission from your landlord

Jan 15, 2023 | Adoption

Did you know that your landlord may refuse the keeping of a pet and does not need to provide a reason? This is why we ask that you confirm that you have permission from your landlord before applying to adopt from Greyhound Rescue. The easiest way to confirm that you have permission is to review your lease.

In New South Wales, please refer to clauses 53, 54 and 55 of your lease as shown below.

In the Australian Capital Territory, please refer to the “Pets” clause of your lease as shown below.

If the pet clause does not clearly provide permission for the keeping of a dog, we have found that the best approach is to ask your agent or landlord for an updated lease or something in writing which refers to this clause and provides explicit permission for the keeping of a greyhound. This letter (click here) provides information which may help with your request.

When you submit your application to Greyhound Rescue, please provide a copy of your lease along with the letter/email from your agent/landlord so that we may verify the details of the person providing approval.
