When Melon first joined Daniel and Matt it took some time for him to come out of his shell, but as the months have progressed, Melon’s personality has blossomed like fruit on the vine.
His doting dads, Daniel and Matt say “he’s a sensitive gentleman who has a strong, shy side with mild streaks of naughtiness.”
“Although he is shy, he has certainly come out of his shell more and more. If he is unimpressed by his dads, he lets them know by letting out a large huff.”
With three beds, two couch cushions and his parents’ bed to choose from, Melon has a plethora of lounging options at his disposal. When he’s not resting, “he loves a sniff. He has to sniff everything new that comes through the door and if it’s cardboard or paper it must be ripped apart.”
Like all new pets, there are things that have taken time to get used to, “he hasn’t quite worked out exactly how the doorbell works. He knows it means there’s someone at the door, but the sound comes from the opposite direction. There’s always a slight hesitation of which way to go, to the door or to the sound, the sound always wins out before a sprint to the front door.”
Just as our furry friends adapt to pet life, Daniel and Matt have learned from their four-legged pal as well.
“Melon has taught us a lot about patience. We have come to love his shyness and have learned to really slow things down to make sure he is comfortable.”
“It’s definitely a journey when they first arrive if you’ve never had one before but we have loved every minute of it and couldn’t imagine life without him.”
“Greyhound Rescue was extremely helpful throughout the adoption process and the first few weeks of having Melon. You can tell they really care about the greyhounds and their wellbeing.”
While Melon’s adjustment to pet life was slow to start, he’s made his bed(s) with his loving parents, and his personality continues to sweeten everyday, just like his namesake.
