Lumi enjoys a life of love after a challenging past

Black greyhound on bed very happy

Being abandoned on New Years Eve, alone and tied to a pole, is the stuff of nightmares for most of us. For Lumi, this was unfortunately her reality. Thankfully, some kind members of the public alerted the local pound to her plight. She was taken to a safe space before arriving in the care of Greyhound Rescue.

Despite this tumultuous time in her life, this beautiful girl has thrived in her forever home, and continues to surprise her fur-mum Diana.

Diana says Lumi is a “spirited and sassy girl”. And despite the trauma she has experienced in the past, she says Lumi “is incredibly resilient and still has so much love to give”.

“Lumi has fit into the family incredibly well, although my partner is probably upset that I love her more than him” says Diana.

“She loves to join us on adventures but is also happy to laze with us on the couch and watch tv.”

And while she does often exude confidence, she can also be a bit of a sensitive soul. So much so that she will cry if there’s a toy in her bed and she doesn’t want it there.

“These six months have been absolutely amazing, even though at times challenging. A bit of patience and a lot of love do wonders in helping their personalities shine.”

One of Lumi’s favourite past times now is her walks.

“Lumi loves going on walks, particularly in residential areas where she can use her eyes and snoot to detect cats” says Diana.

“When she is out with friends, Lumi insists on being at the front of the pack to get all the best sniffs first.”

In her endeavour to scout out cats, she’ll often mistake them for items in people’s yards. That means hose reels, garden gnomes – even bricks on the odd occasion.

Should you adopt a greyhound? Diana says yes!

“Do it! You may lose your couch and be subjected to some stinky farts but there is no bum more deserving than a rescued greyhound.”

In fact, Diana says she often gets clucky thinking about adopting a second kennel kid.

“So much time, thought and love is put in by the volunteers to care for the hounds and find the perfect forever family match” says Diana. “There is so much support from Greyhound Rescue as new adopters navigate life with a greyhound.”

“Not only do you get to adopt a greyhound, you get to adopt a wonderful and supportive community of friends.”
