When you adopt a kennel kid with Greyhound Rescue, during the adoption process we’ll always discuss how moving to a forever home will be a whole new world for them.
Greyhounds have come from a racing environment, and many have never set foot in a home. While some kennel kids may be perfectly comfortable, some may find everything a bit frightening and possibly overwhelming.
When Alexis and her two young sons took Jackie home to join their family, there were certainly many of these ‘first’ experiences.
As Alexis explains, Jackie was “blown away the first time she saw a fan on the roof, and the mirrors in the bedrooms”. Jackie also shares her home with some chickens, but a little nervous around them she much prefers to give them a wide berth.
Now that Jackie is settled six months later, she has more favourites than firsts. Some of those favourites include pats, especially when those pats are from someone she’s just met, chin rubs, food and a nice long walk with a good amount of sniffs.
Alexis highly recommends adopting a kennel kid, and says Jackie has “an incredible amount of love to give”.
