“One time we were walking Salvador and a car driving passed slammed on its breaks. The driver wound down her window and yelled out “That is a good-looking dog“!”
We’re not surprised that traffic is backing up to get a glimpse of Salvador, a big beautiful brindle boy we helped to find a forever home for back in 2020.
Salvador started his new pet life in foster with one of our Greyhound Rescue volunteers, Harriet before finding his forever home with Harriet’s sister Phoebe.
“It has been around 13 months since we adopted him and he is slowly trusting us more and more,” said Phoebe.
“His perfect day would consist of a big sleep in, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, a quick sniff of the front yard and not moving from his position on the couch for any other reason.
Salvador’s family have well and truly discovered why we refer to greyhounds as ‘60 km/hour couch potatoes’.
“Salvador prefers the indoor life. He used to stand at the backdoor when we were in the backyard, looking at us like we were mad for going outside!
“He wasn’t allowed on the couch for the first 6 months, then we let him on once, and there was no turning back. Sleeping on the couch is made even better if he can score one of mum and dads cushions or blankets for extra comfort.
Phoebe says adopting a greyhound was completely different to what she expected.
“Each greyhound is different, so try not to get frustrated when your greyhound doesn’t behave like others you see in photos or hear about on the internet.
“Salvador isn’t the dog we thought we would have, but we love him so much,” said Phoebe.
“We didn’t know what to expect with a rescue dog and he has taught us a lot about patience and trust.
“It seems like even after 13 months we still see changes in his behaviour and trust each week and we’re so excited to continue to watch him grow into domestic dog life.”
