Hello, loyal subjects! I am Shiraz, the former King of Greysland, now looking for my final kingdom to reign over.
I was one of the long-termers at the kennels, and over time I became very special to the people who knew me best. I can be selective about who I let into my inner circle, but the staff and volunteers who earned my trust got to see what a sweet and gentle boy I really am. I didn’t get the title King of Greysland for nothing!
I’m 10 years old now, a stunning blue brindle boy with the most handsome, distinguished face, and I’m currently thriving in foster care. What we've learned together is that I don't want a complicated life; I just want a quiet one. I’m happiest when things are calm and predictable and nobody is putting pressure on me. I’m not a dog who wants to be fussed over by strangers or expected to become someone’s instant best friend. Please don’t try to force a relationship with me or turn me into your idea of the perfect dog. Give me time, let me get to know you, and let things happen naturally. That is when you’ll start to see the real Shiraz.
My ideal kingdom is a very quiet suburb, or better yet, somewhere rural, with an outdoor space where I can potter about and find a good spot to do absolutely nothing! This is a skill I've refined over ten years and take some pride in. I'm not fully retired, though: a bush walk still appeals, and if there's a pool nearby, I won't say no to a splash.
I do require sole rule of the household with no other dogs vying for the throne. I can walk past other dogs calmly enough, but I don't welcome uninvited company, and I'll react if it's pushed on me. I’d also be best in a home without children, and somewhere that doesn’t have people constantly coming and going.
On the practical side, I'm properly house-trained, I sleep through the night, stairs don't faze me, and I'm comfortable being left alone for up to four hours. I do live with some pain and take regular medication for it, so I'll need someone who is happy to keep that up and make sure I stay comfortable.
What I’m really after is somewhere peaceful to spend my twilight years, with someone patient enough to let a relationship build slowly and not take it personally when it doesn’t happen overnight. Because it will happen. Eventually, you’ll meet the sweet, loving boy that the whole of Greysland came to know.
Every king deserves a peaceful kingdom to retire to. I'm hoping mine's with you.
