What was it that sparked your interest in volunteering with Greyhound Rescue?
Volunteering for animal organisations has been something I’ve loved doing. I saw a post about volunteering with Greyhound Rescue at a time when my dog had passed away a few months before. I was missing the company of a dog, so it made sense to volunteer with the hounds.
How long have you been volunteering and what shifts/role do you do?
I have been volunteering since May and I do one Saturday afternoon shift at the kennels a month.
What’s your favourite thing about volunteering?
Spending time with all the hounds, taking them for walks on a quiet, peaceful property.
How has volunteering improved your life?
It brings me great joy to be around greyhounds who have escaped the racing industry. I hope that my presence brings them joy too.
What’s the best thing about being a Greyhound Rescue volunteer?
Spending time with the hounds is the best thing about volunteering!
Why would you recommend volunteering with Greyhound Rescue?
GR is an ethical organisation working hard to look after and rehome hounds who have been caught up in the racing industry. They cannot do their work for hounds without volunteers. The hounds cannot live the life they deserve without volunteers.
What would you say to someone thinking about applying to volunteer?
APPLY, APPLY, APPLY!!!
What skills have you picked up during your time as a volunteer?
Understanding the needs of hounds with trauma. Patience is everything for them.
