The handsome Egg thrives in his forever home

May 18, 2023 | Success Stories

If you’ve been following Greyhound Rescue for a while, you may remember reading about Egg and his journey with his foster dad Ross. If not, you can read all about it here. The story was a very happy one, because it resulted in Egg finding his forever home with Nick and Sarah. We recently checked back in with them, and we’re happy to share that Egg is doing better than ever.

“Our first 10 months with Eggo have been such a great period of growth for both us and Egg,” says Nick.

“Without the assistance and guidance from the volunteers at GR and the killer community of greyhound owners online it would probably be a different story.”

With his first trial unsuccessful due to Egg’s separation anxiety, this was something that Nick and Sarah knew they would need to work on from the start.

“Separation training was an area we focused on from day one and has been going great guns all thanks to the advice from GR,” Nick says.

“Egg’s made it from a personal best of 45 mins when we first got him to just shy of six full hours without so much as a squeak!”

Other things Egg has found he loves in his forever home? Lounging, pawing for more rubs and “flexing his big brain doing tricks”. Nick and Sarah say he’s particularly good at ‘touch’!

Egg has also become quite the social butterfly, with a great improvement in his reactivity to other dogs, thanks to consistent training.

“It makes Egg’s day meeting anyone on our daily walks, human or dog; he’s a very social dude.”

“It’s awesome seeing him gather more confidence,” says Nick.

For anyone thinking about adopting a greyhound, Nick and Sarah cannot recommend them highly enough for the position of your next best mate.

“They’re amazing dogs, backed by a crazy diligent online community and you get to rehome some seriously mistreated little guys in the process” Nick explains.

“It’s not easy when you don’t know 100% what you’re getting in to but it’s such a rewarding journey.”
