Meet sweet little lady Sasha

Feb 8, 2023 | Success Stories

Sasha landed on all four paws the day she went home with new owner Peggy. Nervous at first, Peggy is amazed by how confident Sasha has become six months later.

Sasha the greyhound

Sasha is a sweet, friendly little lady who loves everyone she meets. Having fit right into the family, Sasha is content to stay close to her humans. She’s hard to miss, considering she’ll poke her head through your arm or nuzzle a leg until she gets the pats she’s after.

Sasha has come a long way since that first day Peggy took her home on her adoption trial.

“When we brought her home, she was really nervous… afraid of the loud noises on the road and jumping at the trees blowing in the wind” explains Peggy.

“It’s amazing to see how confident and energetic she’s become since then!”

Walks are her favourite, and according to Peggy, Sasha puts on quite the show before heading out.

“She absolutely loves going out for walks” says Peggy.

“She does this little dance every time we get ready to leave the house and hops and trots around like she can’t contain her excitement.”

Peggy loves the fact that Sasha is now able to join her family on walks at a nearby park they have visited for years.

According to Peggy, the clever Sasha also has a bit of a superpower… a special knack for seeking out beds!

“When we brought her home, she knew instantly where to lie down, and when she got her second bed she did the same” Peggy says.

“Sometimes when I’m re-assembling her bed after a wash, she’ll get impatient and lie down on the small part even though she doesn’t fit!”

Peggy believes there are so many positives to rescuing a greyhound.

“They sleep a lot, don’t need too much exercise, don’t bark a lot and they’re gentle and friendly” says Peggy.

“Adopting an adult dog means you can skip all those stages puppies go through with chewing and toilet training. They really are amazing dogs!”

A first-time greyhound owner, Peggy can’t stress enough how valuable it was to have a team she could contact whenever she needed support.

“The volunteers at Greyhound Rescue have so much specialised knowledge, going the extra mile to provide each family with information and advice specific to their greyhound” says Peggy.

“Sasha and I definitely wouldn’t be where we are now without their expertise and support”.
