Help Our Hounds Hop Into a Home This Easter

Help the hounds hop into a home this Easter…
For $450* you could love the Easter Show for a day. For $350 you could be loved by a greyhound forever!
We are currently OVERFULL at Greyhound Rescue with over 50 dogs in kennels alone and at present cannot save any more. We urgently need to see more hounds in homes, but we need your help to get them there.
The holiday period is a time when people are at home more and a perfect time to settle in a new family member. If you have been thinking about adopting or perhaps you have a spare couch to foster a greyhound in need we would love to hear from online casino you. Why not forgo the Show this year and spend Easter with a greyhound instead?
If you are unable to adopt or foster, we are also always in need of regular sponsors and donations particularly at times like these when our kennelling, food, treatments, and vet costs are very high. Every little bit counts!
For more information on our adoption and fostering process please visit contact and get in touch with our volunteers.

We Need Help!

Gidget 1

Update: 7.6.16

Gidget has now gound her forever home and thank you to all of your generous donations our goal for her has been reached!

My name is Gidget and I am a little girl with big ideas. My big idea, just like my namesake is to go surfing. Um….counter surfing that is! But I’m going to need some help to get to that counter surfing height!

I am very unusual, because I am a greyhound puppy, and people don’t see us puppies very often.  At 8 weeks old I broke my leg while in my pen with my brothers and sisters. The nature of my injury meant I would be no good as a racer, so my owner surrendered me after the break had healed at 14 weeks. Because I had to be kept by myself for 6 weeks and not run around I need some help to recover. This does come at a cost as I need hydrotherapy to help develop muscle in my back legs, high quality food to help my bones grow strong, and vet visits to see how I’m progressing.

We are looking for sponsors like you to raise funds to cover my recovery.

But it isn’t just me that requires help.

I’m one of the lucky ones that got out before I had a chance to race. Greyhound Rescue takes on many houndies that have and this costs an awful lot. We are so thankful for our regular sponsors and supporters who give so generously but we still need help to cover not only special cases like me and a few others that need extra treatments- but every greyhound who needs vet work, flea treatments, worm treatments, food, and a kennel to stay in while they patiently wait for a forever home. I, Gidget and all the greyhounds are extremely grateful for your help!

We are hoping to raise $5000 to help pay these costs.

Luna (Cat Tolerant) (Homed)

Luna is proudly sponsored by Jodi.

“Hello I’m Luna and I am a young playful girl looking for a job as a snoop…I mean neighbourhood watch. I can’t help that being blessed with a long snout it is the perfect way to look into anything new I find, poke it round corners, and generally be a “nosy parker.” As I am young and full of zest for life I need the right introductions to make doggy friends but I am easily directed. I can sit too! I have passed my cat tolerance test and could live with a confident cat who will remind me they don’t necessarily want me in their face (I got a bop on my nose for being too pokey during my test, whoops! Won’t do that again!). I just want a family to love me and start my live as a loved pet.”

Luna is:

  • Approximately 2 years old
  • Desexed, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • Adoption cost:$350
  • Located in Sydney
  • Cat Tolerant: Yes
  • Small Dog Tolerant: Yes
  • Child Friendly: Yes

Christmas Donations at Vineyard Vets

vineyard vets xmas

Dr Rob Zammit (Uncle Rob to the houndies)  and the team at Vineyard Vets have supported Greyhound Rescue for many years. As our main vet clinic, they assist us every week whether it is a routine desexing or something a lot more serious such as Fleur’s leg amputation, or Murray’s femural head and neck resection this year. We are very grateful to have such wonderful vets close by that have made a huge difference to the hounds, and willing to try just about anything!

This year they are supporting us again with their Christmas appeal. You can leave a gift for the houndies, or make a donation and place a bauble on their tree. Just pop in to the clinic 703 Winsdor Rd Vineyard or call (02) 9627 1257.

Thankyou Vineyard Vets!

Jagger here is one of three young brothers that have arrived at GR.

“I’m Jagger and I like to think of myself as the frontman when it comes to a bit of good hearted mischief! I like good times, fun times, playtimes, and cuddletimes. I’m a mover and a shaker and being so young I have my whole life ahead of me. What I’m after is somebody who will gimme some shelter, a bit of guidance, and always be ready for an adventure – I have a nose for that, just follow my lead! If you think you might be the one who will be charmed by my good looks and loving, then you need to give my managers a call! Email the team”

Carlos is kindly sponsored by Zoe & Elizabeth.

“I am Carlos, a tall dark and handsome hound looking for loooove! If I could talk I would sound like Antonio Banderas and whisper sweet nothings in your ear to make you swoon…But because I’m a hound you will have to make do with my soulful eyes and charm instead. I am quite a snuggler and would love to cuddle up to you on a lounge and gaze at you adoringly.”

Reduced Adoption Fees

Jagger 3

As many of you know, Greyhound Rescue is completely full at the moment. With some leaving for their forever homes, but daily requests to take on many more, we cannot save them all as there is literally “no room at the inn.” As joyful as the Christmas season is, the cost to adopt at an expensive time of year is an obstacle for some people who would otherwise be only too willing to give a greyhound a home. This is a pity as many people are on annual leave and school holidays which is a great time to settle in a new family member.

In an effort to find homes for the hounds during this time of year- and enable us to save the many more we are asked to take every day –  we are offering a reduction in our adoption fee. We will be waiving the usual $100 deposit when a hound goes on trial, and also offering  a longer period in which to finalise the adoption payment. Between now and January 31st any greyhound that goes on trial will only cost $250 to adopt, and payment will not be required until the end of February.

If you have been thinking you would love to give a greyhound a forever home but it might be stretching your budget at this time of year, this might be the perfect opportunity to adopt after all! Please get in touch with us or call Peter 0412 562 104.”

Urgent Call for Adopters and Foster Carers

Greyhound Rescue is FULL and overflowing! At the moment we have no available room in our main kennels or with our foster carers. Our overflow boarding kennels also have no space. The emails and phone calls don’t stop coming though – particularly this time of year coming up to Christmas when the pounds are full too and dogs cannot wait. As is usually the case we also have surrenders waiting to come in.  We desperately need more kind souls who are ready to adopt a greyhound or to foster,or we cannot save more. We know it is a tough ask with Christmas just a few short weeks away and many will be busy with lots of social engagements or travelling and unable to help , but if you are ready for the commitment to adopt or are available to foster you will save a life this Christmas. To find out more about our foster and adoption process please go here or send an email through to and our volunteers will be in touch shortly.
