Vale Rosie

Today we pay tribute to long-time GR alumni, Rosie, who crossed the rainbow bridge last week. Vale Rosie.

“In 2013 Rosie Duddy stormed her way into my life and heart. Unable to choose a greyhound at Riverstone kennels, Greyhound Rescue made the decision for me. Ausilia was enlisted to transport her from the kennels. I’ll never forget that evening when she walked up my garden path looking more like a white deer than a dog.

Just shy of her 15th birthday it was her time. She gave me the best 7 years of companionship and I’ll never stop missing her. I knew nothing about greyhounds and made mistakes but Rosie, tolerant as ever, took them all in her stride. She taught me so much about myself, as well as greyhounds.

She blossomed and her trademark “get in first mentality” with other dogs soon disappeared and she transformed into such a tolerant gentle girl. She would lie in the crèche at work and let children crawl over her, walk patiently with my disability clients and visit the elderly at the Illawarra Retirement Trust.

My bed was no longer my bed, however I was allowed to share it with her.

At Easties Beach, South Coast she was known as HRH Rosie. People would stop and stare as she raced down the shoreline. She was mesmerising. She would then fling herself into a rock pool before emerging, waiting for adulation and pats from her many fans. So many wonderful memories.

Thank you so much to Greyhound Rescue’s founders, Janet and Peter Flann, as well as all the amazing volunteers. GR and Rosie have, and continue to, change me for the better.

Anyone reading post who is new to the world of greyhounds, or undecided like I was, please take the plunge.

LIFE IS BETTER with a greyhound (or two) in it.”

-Belinda, Rosie’s mum and Greyhound Rescue Volunteer
