Macarthur’s Greyhound Rescue has been honoured as one of the top animal rescue organisations in Australia.

The organisation is a finalist for Outstanding Rescue Group in the Jetpets Companion Animal Rescue Awards 2019.

The awards showcase excellence and innovation in animal rescue and attract more than 1000 entries from across the nation.

Greyhound Rescue chairwoman Nat Panzarino said the local volunteers – or ‘vollies’ as they’re affectionately known – were the reason the organisation was so successful.

She thanked them and the generous supporters of Greyhound Rescue.

“This is well-deserved recognition for the incredible work done by Greyhound Rescue’s dedicated team of volunteers which includes many locals from the Camden region,” she said.

“The win is also a great credit to the founders of Greyhound Rescue, Janet and Peter Flann, who recently retired from their full-time charity work for some well-earned rest.”

Ms Panzarino said the recognition could also be attributed to Greyhound Rescue’s outstanding submission.

“Our volunteer Margot Undercliffe wrote the submission,” she said.

“It took 25 hours of her time. Margot is also a kennel volunteer.

“Whether it’s hot, cold or raining, our kennel volunteers turn up to feed, walk and love our ‘kennel kids’.

“Most importantly, the vollies clean kennel runs and poop-scoop, plus do loads of washing and drying, but always say ‘houndie’ love makes it worthwhile.”

Ms Panzarino said all Greyhound Rescue’s volunteers were valued, and the organisation was always on the lookout for more.
