Australian Dog Lover website – Greyhound Rescue calls for City2Surf supporters

The Australian Dog Lover website (5K subscribers to its digital monthly magazine plus social media feeds) covered GR’s City2Surf fundraising team.

Co-founder of Greyhound Rescue, septuagenarian Peter Flann, is asking readers to sponsor him for the 2018 City2Surf on Sunday 12th August 2018 so he can raise funds for this Sydney-based rescue group.

“I turn 78 one week after the race so need all the help I can get! We’re able to do our work due to the generosity of the public through fundraising initiatives. We get no formal funding from government or the greyhound racing industry,” Peter Flann, GR co-founder.

Greyhound Rescue (GR) is a Sydney non-profit which rescues and re-homes ex-racing Greyhounds. “Often the Greyhounds will have health issues which need to be sorted before re-homing.”

“A lot of our fundraising covers these costs. We believe all Greyhounds deserve to have a couch to call their own and we do not give up on any of them,” said Peter. I’ll do my best to keep up with all our young and enthusiastic volunteers.” Peter is 77 years old and can be sponsored by clicking here.

Fellow dog lovers are also invited to join the GR team at city2surf2018.everydayhero.com/au/greyhound-rescue
Those who raise $150 in sponsorship will get a yellow Greyhound Rescue T-shirt to wear on the day.

Janet Flann, GR founder, said while people are welcome to adopt Greyhounds from GR, most people don’t know they can foster to see if the dog is a good match for their lifestyle.

The charity pays the full cost of necessary vet bills while a dog is in foster, while carers cover food, shelter and routine sundries. “We’ll supply muzzle, coat, collar and lead. The only thing carers need to pay for is food as well as flea and worm treatment,” said Janet.

She said how long a hound stays with foster carers depends on the number of adoption applications received by Greyhound Rescue: “Foster carers should be prepared to accommodate a dog for at least six months. We always need more foster carers!”

People who’d like to become foster carers can complete an application form.

GR’s Greyhounds are desexed, vaccinated, and heartworm tested for only $350 each, if people want to adopt.
