Corporate volunteering with Greyhound Rescue – Bunnings, Deloitte and BBC Worldwide

Greyhound Rescue is keen to thank three corporates that volunteered over the past year – Bunnings, Deloitte and BBC Worldwide.

Sue Bradshaw, Greyhound Rescue Secretary, said corporates make an immense contribution when they visit the charity’s western Sydney kennel facilities to help out: “They also have a great time, with much camaraderie and humour in good supply.”

Deloitte’s Impact Day – when its people come together to make an impact that matters in their local communities – meant its Sydney valuation team could work with Greyhound Rescue.

“The valuations team did great work, despite the 40⁰ degree heat of last November. They fixed doors, mowed, whipper-snipped, weeded and cleaned up. They also secured our main gates using an innovative solution. Now, getting a car through the gates in windy weather is easy,” said Sue.

Bunnings’ Rouse Hill team also braved high temperatures last February to ensure the greyhounds had vital shade available in their long, individual runs.

“The work involved removing old shade cloth, cutting new cloth for each run, installing the cloth over each run with secure cable ties, as well as running wire cable underneath the cloth for support. Materials were supplied free of charge,” said Sue.

Sue said BBC Worldwide was the third corporate to help out over two separate days, with the first working bee actually taking place during National Volunteer Week 2017 (8-13 May). This is part of BBC Worldwide’s global initiative Team Worldwide, which supports local communities through volunteering.

Over two separate days, BBC Worldwide fielded more than 20 volunteers who did a wide range of jobs, including the dismantling of a large number of fences and dog runs.

“The fences and dog runs had to be broken down so they could be moved to a new location and recycled. Greyhound Rescue is in the process of relocating its kennels, so these two volunteering days came just in the nick of time. I don’t know what we would have done without this timely help from so many people at BBC Worldwide,” said Sue.
