Thinking of adopting or fostering a greyhound? It’s a wonderful thing to do, and a decision you won’t regret! Greyhounds come from a very different life that the one that you will be giving them and it might take them a little while to adjust. While they may be a few years old, they will still have a puppy level of understanding when it comes to being a family pet.
When a hound arrives with us here at Greyhound Rescue we start to learn about their personality and think about the kind of home that will be their ideal match. Our process is designed to place hounds in households where they will have the best chance to succeed. We check their health and spend time getting to know them. We work to rehabilitate hounds who might need some help.
Filling in your application form starts the ball rolling, and we will assign a volunteer to manage your application from end to end. We’ll also have a volunteer come and visit with you in your home to get to know more about you and to better understand which of our greyhound would be a good match. Once we have found a good match we will invite you to come and meet the hound at our kennels, bringing all of the members of your household along. From there, you take the greyhound on a two-week trial to ensure that everyone is happy. Greyhound Rescue are available to offer support and guidance. Once you’re sure everything is happy the paperwork is completed to finalise the adoption.
Want to be a foster carer? We are always looking for foster carers to help hounds who may need a little extra TLC, whether that is for medical reasons or perhaps they need a bit of extra time and patience to make the transition to pet life. Our Foster Coordinators are there to guide you and your hound on their journey.
