Christmas is coming!

Combine greyhounds and art, and draw from the heart! Use your creative skills to help greyhounds in need by entering the Greyhound Rescue 2017 Christmas Card competition.

Each Christmas we sell cards featuring festive, hound-themed drawings and designs submitted by our talented supporters. Does your artwork deserve a place in there?

Submit your design by Friday, 15 September 2017 by emailing it to nat@greyhoundrescue.com.au. Specs are outlined below.

If your design is selected, it will be printed on high-quality card and sold in an assorted fundraising pack, with 100% of profits going directly to help meet the high costs of rescuing and rehoming greyhounds. Winners will be selected by a panel of Greyhound Rescue volunteers. If you have any queries or would like to discuss design ideas or receive preliminary feedback, feel free to email the address above.

Chip (homed)

Hi I’m Chip and I have plenty of personality! I love to wiggle myself under your legs, come and and do it all over again, and give you a cheeky derp or smile. Life will definitely not be very boring without me!I am definitely a people person, and to poke my long nose into everything (including your butt!) Basically I’m a stickbeak baby exploring the world. I would be bet with a yard so no apartment in the inner west for me! I would do best with another dog to show me the ropes of pet life and some people around without long hours (well why would you want to be at work all day if you had me!)

Bronson (homed)

Hi there, I’m Bronson! Don’t let me tough-guy name fool you – it just helps with my street cred. I’m really just one big softie.

I absolutely love spending time with people and really enjoy a good cuddle and a scratch. Oh, and toys, I just love toys – even better if they squeak! I’m happy to entertain myself but it’s always better to have a human to enjoy a game of fetch and have a chase with.

I’m good with other dogs too so if you have any potential furry siblings for me that would be super! Kids could be OK, but only if they’re a little bit older so they can join in the games!

Thank You Pymble Ladies College

Greyhound Rescue is very grateful to the year 10 girls from Pymble Ladies College, their teachers and parents for spending time at our shelter as part of their service learning week and helping us with all manner of tasks.

Here is some of what they achieved.

  • Cleaned and tidied our two dog trailers to get them ready for their next home via freecycle.org
  • Washed every dog using our hydrobath. A big thank you to Jim’s Dog Wash franchisee Theresa McKenzie for also volunteering her services and making the dogs even shinier.
  • Filled holes, cut thistles, walked dogs, cuddled dogs. Played ball with them and gave them their first real run in the sunshine since they were rescued.
  • Cleaned the blanket room and tidied the office helped by Karen Gaddis.
  • Washed the greyhound rescue van and cleaned it inside.
  • Created an inventory of all the poles and wires from our dismantled dog runs ready for our relocation once we find somewhere to go.
Thank you ladies, and we hope to see you again soon!

Volunteer of the Month – August 2017

We’d like to introduce you to Verity, one of our dedicated volunteers who we are recognising as our ‘Volunteer of the Month’ for The month of August.

Our volunteers are the very backbone of what we do at GR. Without them, we could not possibly save and rehome as many greyhounds as we do. While every single one of our volunteers is important no matter how much they do whether hands on with the dogs or behind the scenes, every month we are introducing just one of them to you and acknowledging their amazing efforts. These volunteers have demonstrated exceptional passion, commitment, reliability, and co-operation to make GR what it is, and we thank them tremendously.

We had a chat to Verity to learn more about why she loves volunteering with Greyhound Rescue…

Emmett

Hi, I’m Emmett, a little goofy lookin’ but I promise you I will be your super dooper best friend. Plus, since I’m named after Dr Emmett Brown I’m definitely interested in the future – my future! You won’t need a DeLorean or a flux capacitator to get me to my future. What you will need is a big heart and a loving home to get me to my perfect place. Being a bit of a maverick I prefer to fly solo, so would love a place all to my own. Read More »

Licorice (homed)

I’m Licorice and I’m as black and slim as that sugary treat! I am fun loving and playful, and looking for a home with some room for me to stretch my legs and chase a ball. I would suit a family without very young children, but if you have some teenage boys willing to play soccer I’m happy to help them put in some practice! Toys are definitely a requirement, I would buy them in bulk for me if I were you… As I am a sporty type I would not suit living in a unit, but an active family with a bit of a backyard would be just the ticket.
