Alexander the Greyt (Homed)

Hi I’m Alexander the Greyt. I’m the class clown, a goofy loveable giraffe on roller skates that you will fall in love with instantly! I adore tiny humans – they are great fun and I would love to have some of those in my new family. My favourite toy is my red dumbbell which I carry around everywhere, but I would be really happy if there were more toys at your house. I am super friendly and get along with other dogs really well. If you have a couch for me at your place get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Rupert

Hi I’m Rupert, and I’m looking for a home that keep me in style. I like to dine alone, so not kiddies that will disturb my degustation time thanks! I am good with other greyhounds, and I love the ladies but I have yet to meet other breeds. I have the best buns of steel you will ever see and I’m not afraid to show them off. Seriously, I need to be in GQ or something, maybe you can be my agent?

If you want a lean, clean, roaching machine I may be the hound for you.  Get in touch with the matchmakers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Reece (homed)

Hi I’m Reece. I’m just a really nice boy, the kind of boy a girl doggy would take home to meet her pawrents! I am great with other dogs and very friendly. Small humans are ok by me, so if you have some of those at your house I can live with those. After I have got over the excitement of going for a WALK (yeah, yeah, love those give me lots of those) I am good on lead. I’m also a really gentle eater and nibble softly out of your hands if you give me a bikkie. If you think I could match your family get in touch with the matchmakers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Ziggy (homed)

Hi, I’m Ziggy! I can be a little timid at first, but once I get to know you, I’m friendly as can be and I’ll even flash you one of my dazzling smiles! Once I come out of my shell, you’ll be able to see my quirky personality shine!  I love to give you grins if you say cheese, it may look scary but I’m just so HAPPY to see you! When I’ve finished my meal I like to take my bowl somewhere else – I’d put it in the sink for washing up but I just can’t reach it! Did I mention that I’m great with kids too? As long as I have my own quiet space where I can get used to being in a home.

If you think I may be your perfect match get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Volunteer of the Month – March

Dicken

No doubt about it, we wish there were more people like this in the world!

Meet Dicken. He is the sort of person that goes about his volunteering work quietly in the background, doing his thing. He’s the sort of volunteer that when we find mysterious but much needed items at kennels that seem to have come from thin air (buckets, bags, etc) it’s a bet Dicken is behind it because he never makes a fuss about his contributions! Thank you Dicken for everything you do!

1.When and how did you first get involved with GR?
I started volunteering at the current kennels about 18 months ago. I came across GR when I was looking for a greyhound to adopt a few years ago and used to help out at the previous GR kennel which was smaller and as well equipped as the current one.

2.Do you have any greyhounds or dogs of your own?
I used to have a greyhound but sadly it passed away about 20 months ago. Before that I had two golden retrievers. I’m looking to adopt another one hopefully in the very near future (a greyhound of course).

3.What do you find most challenging about GR?
I guess the most challenging part of GR is to change people’s misconception about greyhounds. Many people still think greyhounds are vicious animals because they are muzzled when they are out in public or when they race and because of that some people don’t see greyhounds as family pets. But gladly due to the recent publicity of greyhound racing and the on-going education from animal charity groups such as GR, more and more people now realize greyhounds can be wonderful family pets.

4.Why do you support GR as opposed to other rescue groups?
I was researching greyhounds a while ago when I was looking to adopt one and came across GR and was really impressed by the effort and determination of Peter and Janet (founders of GR) in saving abandoned greyhounds. Being a small non-profit charity organization without any government subsidies they rely heavily on help from volunteers and sponsors/donors.

5.When your friends or family find out that you volunteer what do they say or ask?
They are really supportive and love to know more about greyhounds. Some are even considering greyhounds as they next pets!

6.What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering
You won’t regret it. Thinking about what the dogs went through before they arrive at GR and seeing the transformation the dogs make at GR will bring a smile to your face and your heart.

7.What do you do when you aren’t volunteering or working?
Chillaxing and sleeping.

8. What might someone be surprised to learn about you
I love coffee. I may have 6-7 cups of ristretto a day and still manage to fall asleep on the couch by 8PM!

9. If you could use three words only to describe greyhounds, what would they be?
Lazy, easy-going, funny.

10. And lastly, who is your favourite kennel kid at the moment and why!
They’re all my favourites but if I really have to pick one it’d be Humphrey. Whenever he sees you he can’t wait to jump up to give you lots of kisses on your face (and muddy paw prints on your shirt on a rainy day).

Baby (homed)

Hi there, I’m just a teeny tiny girl – that’s why they call me Baby! I’m currently in foster care and it didn’t take me long to learn to enjoy the simple pleasures in life – food, snoozing on the biggest bed I can find, squeaky toys and going for zoomies at the local dog park! After I get my few minutes of zooming around out of the way, I’m happy to spend the rest of the day lazing around.

I’ve been told I have a bit of a flair for interior design and I like to ‘borrow’ some of the soft furnishings from my foster family to decorate and make a comfy bed for myself.

I’m great with dogs of all sizes – even the little ones – I’m sharing my foster home with a miniature schnauzer! Kids aren’t a problem for me either.

Sassy (homed)

Hi there, I’m sassy and I’m Sassy! I am also a teddy bear connoisseur, so it is very important I find a family that finds me the best teddy bears in the world! Just imagine how cute I would look in my onsie, snuggled into your lap with a teddy bear tucked under my chin. Yep, You’re imagining it aren’t you? I am only a baby learning the ropes but I would love to please you and I know I will learn quickly. I am great with other dogs and kids, and I can;t wait to meet you.

Sarah Jane

Hi I’m Sarah Jane! I’m a quieter girl that likes to snooze all day. I can be a little timid to begin with and need to take my time to get used to new situations but once I get to know you I’ll love you forever. I’m not much of a city gal, living in a nice quiet neighbourhood would suit me just fine. I like the boy greyhounds but the other girls cramp my style. Small human types are ok by me, but not anything small and fluffy they are too tempting! I am really so easy to please and just want to find my perfect forever home that don’t expect me to do much but be a couch ornament.

Lisa (homed)

Lisa is kindly sponsored by Max, Rob & Jaci.

Hi I’m Lisa, and I would like a family with a backyard so I can show you just how good I am at zoomies! A pool isn’t essential, but you can always give me a paddle pool to cool off my paws! I am fun loving and affectionate, and I have lived in a house before. I will respond well to training because I just want to please you (and have fun, fun is important!) If you think I may be a good match for you get in touch with the volunteers info@greyhoundrescue.com.au
