Joy (Homed)

Joy is Sponsored by Michele!

Her foster carer says:

“If you want a little velcro love bug, Joy is your girl. She has the most adorable little face and loves to smile at you while she’s snuggling on the couch.  I’m sure she gets most of her exercise following her human from room to room.  She has loads of energy for a 9 year old, but is happy to snuggle down for some serious couch time in the evening.  She is used to her foster mum being away for long hours at work.  She is used to having a door open to the back yard, so will need a little reminding about not weeing in the house if there is no doggie door (but we are working on this as the weather gets colder in Canberra!)She is fearless! She has a tendency to barge straight through her foster brother Fergus, and sprawl over his feet on the bed!” If you would like to know more about Joy please contact us info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Joy is:

  • 9 years old DOB TBC
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • Adoption cost $350
  • Located in Canberra
  • Not yet cat tested

Sue (Cat Friendly) (Homed)

Sue is sponsored by Jeannine & Greg!

Sue is a black girl that arrived with her sibling Proton. She is a timid girl that has responded well to being in a foster home with 5 other dogs, cats, and chickens who have been showing her the ropes. She  walks well on lead, and likes to be near her foster parents in her bed while they do computer work, or snuggling on the couch for reading or TV time. Loud noises can startle her and children make her nervous when there is lots of noise, but she is very sweet and affectionate, and is no trouble at all.  If you are interested in adopting Sue please get in touch info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Sue is:

  • 4 years old DOB 15.7.10
  • Desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated

Maree (Homed)

Maree is sponsored by Jillian!

Maree is a gorgeous small black girl with a lovely snuggly personality and a cheeky spirit. Playful and loving, she is friendly and very good around children and other dogs medium to large sized – but not with cats or small dogs as they are too tempting! She is used to being in a house and all the noises and goings on, she is toilet trained, and a delightful house guest. She settles well and will stay on her bed at night, but she won’t say no to a sneaky snuggle in bed with the humans in the morning! She will not do well being in kennels as she is too used to be being in a home. If you would like to get to know this cutie patootie you won’t be disappointed! Please get in touch with us to foster or adopt this little black beauty. info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Maree is:

  • Approx 3 years old (DOB TBC)
  • Microchipped, vaccinated, desexed, heartworm tested and treated
  • Adoption cost $350

Macy (Homed)

Macy is proudly sponsored by Jennifer!

FOSTER REQUIRED

Macy  has been with us a while now – she has spent too much of her growing up in kennels!  She’s a little bewildered and afraid having found herself abandoned and her world turned upside down.

Coaxing her out of her kennel can take some time, she is more keen to return to the kennel than spend time on the grassed area with people but she bonded very well with fellow honorary greyhound Spanner who gave her a lot more confidence. Spanner has now gone on trial and Macey will be feeling a bit lost without him. She feels safe and secure in the kennel environment and it’s a very sad situation to see her like this. She likes people and doesn’t have mean bone in her body; it’s just her fear holding her back. With the right family and probably a confident doggy to goof around with she will blossom into a beautiful loving companion, we just need to find her the right match!

A kind home where she will be showered with love and given the opportunity to enjoy herself with people who will show her that life can be lots of fun is just what this dog needs. Macy has spent time having training at Farmer Dave’s, but being shy and submissive, she’s just not sure who to trust and how to become a relaxed, happy girl. When you have won her trust she is very good at kisses and will lean against you if you sit with her on her bed.

If you have the patience, time and ability to provide Macy with a loving, quiet home  then Macy may have found her forever family. please contact us info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Macy is:

  • 2 years old (DOB 13.1.13)
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • adoption costs $300 ($350 from August 1st 2014)
  • located in Sydney
  • not yet cat tested

Benny (Homed)

Benny is currently being fostered in Canberra.

His foster mum says : He is a delightful boy, very easy to care for as he has no behaviourial issues. He’s house trained and walks beautifully on the lead. He is fine with other dogs of all sizes.”

Benny has a bit to say about himself: “I’m an affable four year old hound. My body may not be as big as some of the other boys around but my heart is extra-large for loving. I have a super sleek black coat that can be sensitive to dryness so I LOVE having a coconut oil massage. My lead walking skills are very good and I’m a well-mannered boy about town.  I enjoy meeting other dogs and their size doesn’t bother me at all. Not to keen on those things that don’t know how to bark and say meow.

The lounge is always inviting me to test the softness of the cushion and I’m quite an expert at this role.

One of my great attributes are my ears — check them out!”

Benny is:

  • 4 years old (DOB TBC)
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated

Vonne (Homed)

She has a keen eye for games and doesn’t miss a trick. Vonne adores human company and a good lean and snuggle to recoup until the next escapade. Aron (Homed)

Aron is sponsored by Shane!

Aron is a handsome fawn boy who has arrived with Vonne. They have come from the same property and are very good friends – if you are looking for a hero that comes with a sidekick  these two could not disappoint you. Aron is the more mature of the two and balances Vonne’s youthful energy. Being an action man he loves a chase in the yard, yet plays very nicely with his smaller friend. A typical leading man he likes to be up front on a walk  but responds well to direction. He has a gentle affectionate nature with humans and loves to get out of his kennel as much as possible to show off his muscles and agile frame (but even heroes need to recharge so a snooze on the couch until the next episode is fine with him). He would suit a home where there is a lot of interaction with his humans – this hero likes to know what’s going on! If Aron (and maybe Vonne) sound like fun to you please contact us info@greyhoundrescue.com.au.

  • 4 1/2 years old (DOB 8.10.10)

Bentley (Homed)

GR-Boofa-150514-0519GR-Boofa-150514-0513

Bentley is proudly sponsored by Alexandria!

Another handsome black boy, Bentley arrived to us with his sister Sox from the Hunter Valley. He is a brother also to Trixie and Belle. While they have all found their homes long ago Boofa patiently waits…and waits.

“I’m Bentley and I have been waiting a year now for my forever family! I don’t know why people keep looking past me, I have one of the cutest greyhound faces you’ve ever seen, and I’ve learned a lot from the volunteers while I’ve been looking for a home. I am quite good on the lead now, and I haven’t lost any of my cheeky personality and charm while I gained some manners!  I recently was an ambassador at the Hawkesbury Show for GR and I loved all the kids giving me pats, and cuddles – not to mention hanging out with everybody. Well…actually, I spent  a lot of time chilling out on a comfy bed while everybody came and patted me. I’m a pretty lazy kind of guy. I’m highly trained in the Couch Anchoring Business and I’m looking for a family that needs to make sure their couch doesn’t fly away. I can even do two jobs at once and give you cuddles! If I could just find that one person who will give me a chance and find out what a great dog I am I would be set. Do you think you might be the one I’ve been waiting for? Then get into contact with my people!   info@greyhoundrescue.com.au”

  • adoption costs $300 ($350 from August 1st 2014)

Tilly (Homed)

Tilly is proudly sponsored by Shane.

She is an easy going young lady who has never raced , but  also quite a cheeky girl and was happy playing up for the camera and poking out her tongue when we were trying to get some photos of her during playtime! She is quite good on the lead and loves giving you a lean and a lick in thanks. This gorgeous lady grey could not disappoint you!

Thanks to all who chose a name for this darling who was called Gurty. We had heaps of wonderful names, we hope to use in the future!

We got a few recommendations saying to keep her name and we almost agreed but then felt a fresh start was needed for this special lady who needs to move on from her past.

So we decided it would be right in naming her Tilly, short for Matilda in support of the weekend she began her new life!

Thank you very much to Melissa, Alice and Rachel who nominated this name

Beau (puppy) (homed)

Beau is an adorable little black greyhound boy puppy aged at only 10 weeks!

Beau is a very special boy who arrived with a healed fractured back leg due due to a metabolic bone disorder. A diet of excellent quality puppy biscuits was all that was needed for his bones to harden and heal so he will be strong enough for an operation where there will be a pin placed to correct the deformed healed fracture. The recovery time is quick at only 3/4 weeks with a few bandage changes and confinement, not total crating. This means he can lead walk and roam free at home but no jumping or rough play during this time.

Beau is looking for his forever home to come along where they can give give him the TLC, patience and training he will need post operation so not to move him him from foster to foster. The operation will be around the 12th of January with Mosman Veterinary Hospital in Mosman, Sydney so he will be ready around then to trial his forever family. We ask that the forever home is willing to take him to his post opp check up at Mosman Vet, about 3/4 weeks after his operation. All vet work in relation to this injury is totally covered by Greyhound Rescue. He may require a few trips to Physio, which we are also happy to reimburse.

His current foster says: “What do I write about him? He is the cutest little nugget ever? Heart stealer? Endearing tiny black dog? Perfect therapy? Wakes me up at 5am? Gives awesome kisses? There is no end to his cuteness….

He has learned to sit and shake hands. He is so clever. Is a favourite on the bay here. People come out of their homes to hug him, and he is such a good sport.

He loves a shoe. Loves a leaf, loves bringing everything inside with him!

Love him to bits. And my iggys love him to bits!!”

Beau is currently in foster with Jess and her 2 Italian greyhounds and has also spent time with adult greyhounds and little terriers. He is encouraged to ‘be calm’ on his bed/mat/crate. He has responded well to positive reinforcement making it easy to train him.

Beau is cat friendly however being a puppy he will test his boundaries so it will be down to the Carer to ensure a happy medium between cats and Beau.

This little delight, like all the puppies, will need to attend a good puppy school – which our behaviourist Bobby will be able to recommend in your area. He will also require consistent basic obedience training at home. Fear not! Beau will come with a puppy manual donated to us by Mali from well established dog training and walking business; See Spot Run.

Beau will be required to be desexed at a minimum of 6 months of age, so it is requested that you are able to travel to one of our recommended vets or pay the surplus in desexing costs at a vet you trust. He will be ‘on trial’ until desexed due to policy that we will not rehome un-desexed dogs. He does not have ear tags so may not officially require the muzzle.

Please visit http://greyhoundrescue.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/GR-New-Adoption-and-Foster-Application.doc for the application form and email to info@greyhoundrescue.com.au. The next step will be a house check and then a meeting may be arranged 🙂

If you think you are ready for the commitment of a little puppy we would LOVE to hear from you!

Beau is:

– 10/11 weeks old
– at 6 months, will be desexed
– currently microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
– adoption costs $450
– located in Sydney
– cat friendly
