Macy (Cat Tolerant) (Homed

Macy is a very special 5 year old who was rescued from a trainer in Nowra. When this beautiful black girl first arrived she found life in a new home a little overwhelming and was extremely timid and anxious. Over time she has thrived being with people who love her. She’s become a clever, affectionate dog that is happiest when she’s close to her humans (just not too close if she’s asleep!). Macy likes a place to call her own and would really benefit from a home where she could have a quiet spot that she can retreat to when it all gets a little bit too much.

She loves meeting new people, knows basic commands and is definitely food motivated. She is very good on the lead and likes slow, calm walks along the river and lazy afternoons on her bed, but will do occasional zoomies at the dog park. She is friendly to indoor cats and currently lives with a chubby black moggie called Angel. Macy sleeps well through the night and is well behaved on car trips.

She would thrive with an owner who can put in some extra time with her in a peaceful place and give her clear boundaries.

Macy is:

  • 5 years old
  • desexed microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • Located in Sydney
  • Adoption cost $350
  • Cat friendly

Angus & Malcolm (Homed)

These two very sprightly but older greyhounds that have never been apart. They were surrendered to us as their owner could no longer keep them, and we would love to send them off to a loving home to spend their twilight years together. They have gone to Canberra for foster care where they have had a change of pace (and name).  Angus and Malcolm were previously known as Zorro & Brettly)

This is what the Canberra crew have to say about them:

“Like their namesake brothers Malcolm (black) and Angus Young (fawn and white) from the band AC/DC, these boys are the very best of friends and have never been apart. For this reason we would ideally love to place them in their forever home together. Bing a bonded pair and slightly older, they are listed as Sanctuary Hounds, which means their veterinary bills are covered by Greyhound Rescue for the rest of their lives.  Both boys are cuddly, lovely and gentle.  Malcolm is the most outgoing of the brothers and Angus is a little more shy but both love human company and follow their foster Mummy around the house looking for snuggles.  They are currently in foster care in with Ada’s little dog Max, girl greyhound Maude and the whole ”band’ seems to be getting along famously.

Both boys are house-trained, walk politely on lead and would suit a wide range of family situations. We’d love to see them homed with children as they would make wonderful family pets. They are also very good at giving kisses, and cuddling them is a bit like hugging your teddy bear as they are unusually quite furry greyhounds! To those about to adopt … we salute you!”

If you have it in your heart and home to give a couch to this pair of seniors we would love to hear from you. Any questions please contact us directly and not in the comments so we can get back to you ASAP.

Angus and Malcolm are:

  • 7 years old (8 in Nov 2014)
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • adoption cost: a donation please contact us for further details
  • located in Canberra
  • not cat tolerant
  • small dog tolerant

Duke (Homed)

Duke is Sponsored by Clyde, Deb & Jack!

“I’m Duke and if you’re lucky enough you might have got a kiss from me when I was being a GR ambassador at the Hawkesbury Show recently! I love to be around people, especially kiddies who pay special attention to my velvety ears and tell me how handsome I am (this is very new to me, and I like getting attention!) and I had lots of little princesses give me smooches. I am quite sure after all those kisses I must have turned into a Prince! I am very gentle with people but small fluffy dogs and their fluffy friends called cats get me a bit too excited, so it would be best if my new family didn’t have either of those. I get along very well with other houndies and medium sized dogs, I am quite a charmer with the lady hounds. I love playtimes, walks, and just hanging out while humans do whatever they need to. I heard there are people who like going for walks and going places but don’t have a dog – can you believe it? They just aren’t doing it right without a dog! Wait…you’re one of those people? Let me help you to do your walks right. Get in touch with the volunteers at GR, and I just might be your perfect match!”

Please contact us for more info on Duke or any of our other houndies!

Joy (Homed)

Joy is Sponsored by Michele!

Her foster carer says:

“If you want a little velcro love bug, Joy is your girl. She has the most adorable little face and loves to smile at you while she’s snuggling on the couch.  I’m sure she gets most of her exercise following her human from room to room.  She has loads of energy for a 9 year old, but is happy to snuggle down for some serious couch time in the evening.  She is used to her foster mum being away for long hours at work.  She is used to having a door open to the back yard, so will need a little reminding about not weeing in the house if there is no doggie door (but we are working on this as the weather gets colder in Canberra!)She is fearless! She has a tendency to barge straight through her foster brother Fergus, and sprawl over his feet on the bed!” If you would like to know more about Joy please contact us

Joy is:

  • 9 years old DOB TBC
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated

Sue is a black girl that arrived with her sibling Proton. She is a timid girl that has responded well to being in a foster home with 5 other dogs, cats, and chickens who have been showing her the ropes. She  walks well on lead, and likes to be near her foster parents in her bed while they do computer work, or snuggling on the couch for reading or TV time. Loud noises can startle her and children make her nervous when there is lots of noise, but she is very sweet and affectionate, and is no trouble at all.  If you are interested in adopting Sue please get in touch

Maree (Homed)

Maree is sponsored by Jillian!

Maree is a gorgeous small black girl with a lovely snuggly personality and a cheeky spirit. Playful and loving, she is friendly and very good around children and other dogs medium to large sized – but not with cats or small dogs as they are too tempting! She is used to being in a house and all the noises and goings on, she is toilet trained, and a delightful house guest. She settles well and will stay on her bed at night, but she won’t say no to a sneaky snuggle in bed with the humans in the morning! She will not do well being in kennels as she is too used to be being in a home. If you would like to get to know this cutie patootie you won’t be disappointed! Please get in touch with us to foster or adopt this little black beauty.

Maree is:

  • Approx 3 years old (DOB TBC)
  • Microchipped, vaccinated, desexed, heartworm tested and treated
  • Adoption cost $350

Macy (Homed)

Macy is proudly sponsored by Jennifer!

Macy  has been with us a while now – she has spent too much of her growing up in kennels!  She’s a little bewildered and afraid having found herself abandoned and her world turned upside down.

Coaxing her out of her kennel can take some time, she is more keen to return to the kennel than spend time on the grassed area with people but she bonded very well with fellow honorary greyhound Spanner who gave her a lot more confidence. Spanner has now gone on trial and Macey will be feeling a bit lost without him. She feels safe and secure in the kennel environment and it’s a very sad situation to see her like this. She likes people and doesn’t have mean bone in her body; it’s just her fear holding her back. With the right family and probably a confident doggy to goof around with she will blossom into a beautiful loving companion, we just need to find her the right match!

A kind home where she will be showered with love and given the opportunity to enjoy herself with people who will show her that life can be lots of fun is just what this dog needs. Macy has spent time having training at Farmer Dave’s, but being shy and submissive, she’s just not sure who to trust and how to become a relaxed, happy girl. When you have won her trust she is very good at kisses and will lean against you if you sit with her on her bed.

If you have the patience, time and ability to provide Macy with a loving, quiet home  then Macy may have found her forever family. please contact us

Macy is:

  • 2 years old (DOB 13.1.13)
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • adoption costs $300 ($350 from August 1st 2014)
  • located in Sydney
  • not yet cat tested

Benny (Homed)

Benny is currently being fostered in Canberra.

His foster mum says : He is a delightful boy, very easy to care for as he has no behaviourial issues. He’s house trained and walks beautifully on the lead. He is fine with other dogs of all sizes.”

Benny has a bit to say about himself: “I’m an affable four year old hound. My body may not be as big as some of the other boys around but my heart is extra-large for loving. I have a super sleek black coat that can be sensitive to dryness so I LOVE having a coconut oil massage. My lead walking skills are very good and I’m a well-mannered boy about town.  I enjoy meeting other dogs and their size doesn’t bother me at all. Not to keen on those things that don’t know how to bark and say meow.

The lounge is always inviting me to test the softness of the cushion and I’m quite an expert at this role.

One of my great attributes are my ears — check them out!”

  • 4 years old (DOB TBC)
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated

Aron (Homed)

Aron is sponsored by Shane!

Aron is a handsome fawn boy who has arrived with Vonne. They have come from the same property and are very good friends – if you are looking for a hero that comes with a sidekick  these two could not disappoint you. Aron is the more mature of the two and balances Vonne’s youthful energy. Being an action man he loves a chase in the yard, yet plays very nicely with his smaller friend. A typical leading man he likes to be up front on a walk  but responds well to direction. He has a gentle affectionate nature with humans and loves to get out of his kennel as much as possible to show off his muscles and agile frame (but even heroes need to recharge so a snooze on the couch until the next episode is fine with him). He would suit a home where there is a lot of interaction with his humans – this hero likes to know what’s going on! If Aron (and maybe Vonne) sound like fun to you please contact us
