Katharine – ‘Pet of the Week’

Katharine is currently in foster with Corinne and doggy foster brother Bond.

Katharine has been living in a home and is well acquainted with being a pet. She could not stay where she is as she is unfortunately not cat friendly. She is people and dog friendly though, and is great with kids!  She is a low maintenance very sweet natured girl, who adores cuddles and is lovely to walk.  She is playful and loves squeaky toys and playing fetch.  Her favourite place to sleep is on the lounge on your lap and is often found belly up and very comfy.  We have it on good authority she fancies herself as a taste tester as she is an excellent counter surfer! This won’t be a problem if no food is left out for inquisitive snouts.   She is a happy girl who needs a loving home.

Her foster family writes “What a friendly, cuddly and playful girl.  She is very eager to say hello to all the neighbourhood dogs and children and gets very excited to go for her morning and afternoon walks.  She loves to play fetch, and gets really excited about outrunning Bond, even if he’s almost a third bigger than her.  When on a walk, her favourite thing to do is look as far as she can and see if she can spot a bunny. When satisfied that all the bunnies are gone, she’s happy to turn around and head back home for breakfast or dinner.  If you don’t mind a couch surfing dog, she’ll warm up a spot but is also very respectful and will learn quickly where she should not lie down.  She’s an early riser and up with daylight so best you be the kind of person who likes a morning walk.”

If you think you might have the perfect home and lap for Katharine please contact us! info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Adoption Fee Increase from August 1st

dottie3

Costs at Greyhound Rescue have continued to increase of late. We are homing more dogs than ever before but this means that we also have more expenses too! There are transport costs, vet fees, kenneling, food, flea and worm treatments… it all adds up. We have held off increasing our adoption fee for as long as possible, but despite everybody’s support, sponsorship, and generous donations we need to make an increase to help us recover a bit more of our costs for each dog.

This adoption fee does not cover all the expenses to us of re-homing these beautiful dogs, but it certainly helps.  As you are aware we are a not for profit charity and receive no funding. We rely solely on donations so every dollar counts. The simple fact is if we don’t try and cover our costs as much as possible we cannot save more dogs.  Starting from August 1st 2014 all adult dogs starting their trials on and after this date will have an adoption fee increase from $300 to $350. We feel that this is a reasonable increase, and  a small price to pay in exchange for a loving forever companion!

To to all our  adopters and sponsors we thank you for all your support and understanding.

The Team at Greyhound Rescue.

Raven

Thanks Noral & Andy for sponsoring the beautiful Raven.

Raven is the latest black beauty to join us at GR. A dreamer not a chaser,  our volunteers could not believe their eyes when her previous owner tipped her over and she snuggled into him like a newborn bubba. She is very comfortable being held and stroked, a lover and dreamer, we think she might be a bit of a hippy – when her littermates were off chasing squeaky toys she was off in the fields smelling the flowers and rolling in the grass! If you would like to meet this flower child to foster or adopt please contact us info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

  • 18 months
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • adoption costs $350

Eve

Thanks Sarah for kindly sponsoring Eve.

Eve is a cheeky blue girl with a zest for life. She gets ever so excited to get out of the kennel for time out on a walk or run and was busy blowing raspberries at everydoggy else who had to wait their turn! She would most likely suit an active household who will include her in everything and and anything. We suspect this girl likes to be the star of the party and is happy to tell you so – just don’t invite any cats to the party, she’s not too keen on them! If you would like to meet little miss cheeky here and add some fun to your house we would love to hear from you. info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

  • TBC

Inky

Inky is the deepest black greyhound we think we have seen! This hunk of a boy has a  coat  like soft black velvet, we just want to stroke him forever! He is a happy clown of a dog that wants to please and just loves attention. He also fancied himself a bit of a Cassanova – he was more interested in trying to kiss our volunteers than pose for the camera. Inky was picked up from Bass Hill vet and is currently in our overflow kennels as we are just so full!  We would love to see him in a foster or forever home, if you are interested in this cassanova wannabe and get some kisses (and who wouldn’t?!)  or have any questions please contact us directly so we can answer you ASAP.  info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

  • TBC
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated

Jay Jay

This beautiful boy is kindly sponsored by Cindy.

Jay Jay here is one of a few seniors we have available at the moment at GR! He has an almost woolfy looking face, is gentle and loving, and is looking for a comfy couch to spend the rest of his days. You would think that Jay Jay was a much younger man, but his charm and winning grin, not to mention his playful nature defies his age. Think the golden age of the silver screen (perhaps a Carey Grant?)and Jay Jay is your leading man! If you would like this dapper fella to spend his twilight years on your sofa we would love to hear from you. Don’t forget being a senior Jay Jay is also a Sanctuary dog so GR covers his veterinary expenses for the rest of his life. Any questions please contact us directly so we can answer you ASAP info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Zorro & Brettly

Zorro (tan and white) and Brettly (black) are two very sprightly but older greyhounds that have never been apart. They were surrendered to us as their owner could no longer keep them, and we would love to send them off to a loving home to spend their twilight years together. they are quite active still so would suit either an active family whoa ren’t necessarily at home all day, or retirees. Being a little older, and having to go together we have classed them as Sanctuary Dogs in the hope of increasing their chances of finding their forever home. This means that Greyhound Rescue covers their veterinary care for the rest of their lives.

They are lovely natured, gentle, and very affectionate. They are very good at giving kisses, and cuddling them is a bit like hugging your teddy bear, as they are unusually quite furry greyhounds! They are currently in some quickly organised foster care as kennels are no place for these big teds.  In foster, they have walked amazingly well on the lead together, met small dogs and are going to be cat tested!

If you have it in your heart and home to give a couch to this pair of seniors we would love to hear from you. Any questions please contact us directly and not in the comments so we can get back to you ASAP. info@greyhoundrescue.com.au

Zorro and Brettly are:

  • 7 years old (8 in Nov 2014)
  • desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated
  • adoption cost: a donation please contact us for further details
  • located in Sydney
  • not cat tested

She She flunked at racing but we think she gets an A+ just being herself.  If you are an artist looking for your perfect subject then Matisse might be the one for you! Daisy

Daisy and her sister Ally were two pups found dumped in the bush. Thanks to some kind hearted 4WD enthusiasts they were saved and handed over to us. They arrived as little bags of skin and bone, but thanks to their amazing emergency foster mum Kerrie and her own animal crew Daisy has filled out, and is now a very healthy and well socialised pup. She can sit and stay and gets along with a variety of dogs big and small.  She is more than ready for a home of her own!

Daisy is

  • approx 17 weeks
  • microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated (desexing due at 6 months)
  • adoption cost $450
