The Macarthur Chronicle, a News Ltd suburban newspaper which reaches 75,849 readers each week, covered Greyhound Rescue’s need for mid-week volunteers.

ARE you searching for intelligent company? A friend with great athletic ability? A creature who loves sleeping just as much as you? Greyhound Rescue may have the answer for you.

Dozens of forgotten greyhound heroes are searching for new volunteers and friends to care for them at Greyhound Rescue’s facility in the rural outskirts of Camden.

Ingleburn’s Aysha Pretki has volunteered at the kennels for six months and says it’s a “super enjoyable” experience.

“I guess it’s free therapy,” she said.

“I don’t think you would know the greyhounds have been treated badly, because all the dogs are so incredibly excited to see you.

“(Greyhound Rescue) is a great organisation to volunteer for.”

Miss Pretki helps with walking the greyhounds, setting up their meals and just having a play.

“I get to do all of the fun stuff,” she said.

Other volunteer tasks can be less glamorous, with jobs including cleaning, washing, brushing, maintenance and, of course, pooper-scoopering.

Greyhound Rescue co-founder Peter Flann said spring was a great time of year to be involved.

“With the weather warming up, it’s a lovely time of the year to be at our kennels near Camden,” he said.

“We really need more help with midweek shifts, especially Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 8-11am and 2-5pm.”

Greyhound Rescue secretary Sue Bradshaw previously told the Chronicle the volunteer work was a special task.

“Volunteers feel a special sense of self-worth as they are doing something great with similar-minded people and working with beautiful animals,” Ms Bradshow said.
